Caterham Celebrates Half a Century

As part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, the iconic Caterham Seven can now be purchased with an exclusive Anniversary options pack.

Available only on Caterhams ordered during 2007 and limited to just 50 units, owners will have the choice of two distinctive color schemes, both featuring a striking gold motif.

The color options are Platinum Silver Metallic paint with a Gold/Black anniversary twin-stripe and noseband, or the reversed scheme with Sapphire Black Metallic paint with Gold/Silver stripes. The limited edition Anniversary pack also includes gold ‘7’ grille, gold trimmed leather seats*, an individually numbered special edition certificate and dashboard plaque, plus bespoke gold wheel centres, 50th Anniversary decals and Union Jack badging.

In addition, buyers will receive a special signed copy of the newly updated book ‘The Magnificent 7’ by Chris Rees and two VIP tickets to join in the celebrations at Caterham’s Golden Jubilee Race Weekend at Donington Park, 2-3 June 2007.

In recognition of the 1957 launch of Colin Chapman’s original 7, the Anniversary Pack will cost just £1,957 including VAT.

The Anniversary Pack is available to order now on the complete range of Caterham 7’s, including the new range of Ford Sigma engined cars. As well as adding the Anniversary Pack option to the range, every new car manufactured in 2007 will feature a special 50th Anniversary nosebadge and standard 12 months RAC cover.

Nice, I can't believe that car has been in production for 50 years and hasn't changed too much over the years, I mean I know its gotten most of the latest technology but overall the concept is the same.

You're right there, the only changes are the move to all round indenpendent suspension on some models, and they have cycle guards on the front, rather than the full-bonnet length fenders.

as well as this caterham have released a seven concept for their 50th birthday

The Caterham Seven is 50 years old this year, and as part of this weekend's birthday celebrations, Caterham's just unveiled this seriously extreme X330 concept.

While it might look similar to pretty much every other Seven since 1957, the X330 could be the most extreme version yet.

It is based on the CSR, introduced in 2005 and with its independent suspension the most significant update of the Seven in its lifetime.

The standard CSR's 2.3-litre Ford Duratec engine produces a whopping 260bhp – enough to give the car a power-to-weight ratio of 456bhp per tonne – but that wasn't enough for the X330.

As the name suggests, the X330 packs 330bhp, due to the addition of a supercharger. Torque is 220 lb ft – 20lb ft more than in the CSR 260.

The X330 is also lighter than a standard CSR, thanks to the use of lighter-gauge steel for the chassis.

Carbonfibre has been used where possible to shave yet more weight, and the gearbox is a lightweight six-speed manual.

A spokesman said that there are currently no plans to put the X330 into production, but that the engineering concept shows where Caterham is going.

If you’d like to see the X330 in the metal, it's at Donington Park in Derbyshire this weekend, 2-3 June, where Caterham is celebrating the Seven's jubilee with a weekend of racing and driving.
