The AMG programs are adapting in lower ranges in MB.
The CLK 500 AMG retain the look & aura, & cheaper than CLK 55 AMG, & CLK 63 AMG.;)

Ah, the poser's choice- when you can't afford an AMG, buy a badge off eBay along with some AMG wheels and slap 'em on your car... :p
There's not even a quad exhaust system to make it look more authentic, or a "CLK50" badge... :(

No, it's a mercedes offered package.

Factory rice at its best. ;)
Nice pics either way. I hate regular cars with AMG badges. It's like a regular Civic with Type R badges, only much more expensive. It makes no sense, but people do that anyway. I guess the body kit does make it look better though. The new CL class desperately needs the AMG kit. It looks boring without it.
Well isn't this like the Audi S-line sport package and the BMW M-sport package 1,3, and 5 series cars in Europe?

Same concept, but the S-Line and M-sport just make it look sportier, not identical to what's on the top-tier model.

So... the said package doesn't add anything else than a AMG badge and new wheels? Easy money...

The original CLK 55 AMG had twin exhaust pipes. ;)
Altough this car doesn't even have that...

Albert, I originally typed twin exhausts, then changed it. I thought of an E55... :o

Thats exacatly what they do, apart from M badges and the missing exhaust a 520d will look exactly like an M5.

This is terrible. I hate the M badged BMW's and this is even worse in my opinion. I think the Audi approach is reasonable with the S-line, but the M and AMG badges should only be put on cars that are worthy in my opinion.

An "AMG" with one exhaust pipe makes me a sad panda.

I'm with Pando. I find that these sorts of moves devalue the aura of the AMG and M badges.

It's even worse when you see BMW 320d with a single pipe facing downwards and lots of M-badges pretending they have an M3... :(

Well... at least the owners of 535ds will rest in peace knowing that their car produces a LOT more torque than the M5.
413 vs 383.
Yeah, it's slower but it provides justification for the package.

I think the 535d is probably a better-value car than the M5; much more real-world performance. Diesel torque for awesome overtaking and motorway cruising. The M5 is better on a track, but the 535d is just amazing for the roads. A true beast.

And the 520d is better value that all of those...

It's became a joke between my brother and I. He promised me that the next car he buys - no matter what marque - he'll put an M badge on that as well.

Yeah, it's just the AMG Styling pack, it's like the M-Sport pack offered on Bimmers and S-Line for Audi, the AMG styling pack usually consists of a restyled grille, bumpers, spoilers, splitters, AMG alloy wheels and maybe some badges, but I think the badges are a further option. Vicky's Dad has the new ML320 CDI with the AMG Styling pack, but you wouldn't call it an ML320 CDI AMG, a diesel AMG Merc is just sinfull

What about the C 30 CDI AMG?

Erm... AMG cars have always been discreet and subtle...

I mean, the wheels are too small, I see no large, bright exhaust pipes, deep, bold bumpers, splitters and spoilers.
