Sorry to check, but do you know it was a real GT40 ?
There are some superb kits made over the years.
The usual give-away is that ONLY the original GT40 is actually 40 uinches high. All the kits I know of are 1 to 1 1/2" taller to give some headroom.

ive heard that they werent 40 inches high. ive heard the mark 1 was 39.8 mark 2 was 40.1 and the mark three was 40.9 i could be wrong

You know I have been thinking that, Matra et Alpine ;)

If it is a kit, then it is one of the best i have ever seen. the only thing that doesn't seem quite right are the two scopes at the back. Everything else including the cockpit looked right. :)

Well their is a NZ company that make as close as you can get to exact replicas...and they are suprisngly cheap too...and are availble in lhd...they mesure the same 40 inches as the car...
Also ehre at wakefield park there was a guy in a GT40 replica who was attempting to break the terminal speed record of wakefield park....i dont think he got it but he did get the best time there and decimated the subaru WRX a skyline and a whole shit load of shelby cobra replicas and other GT40s...there was even a Datsun Stanza with a SR20DET engine in it....

I saw a Red GT40 replica when I was walking to work at 10 to 6 in the morning last summer.
Probably the only time I have been glad to be up that early :D

I was a bit dissapointed that he didn't give it any stick coming out of a slow corner onto a straight, empty road, I don't think I could be that restrained ;)

The biggest give away is if you take a look at the tax disc! I have seen so many Ferrari's that say Toyota MR2 on the tax disc.

At Knockhill this weekend, this one is a kit.
Still a stonking 5 litre V8 mind :)

Sounded great.
Even the exhaust is a copy of the Mark1.
Dials, wheels, louvres and everything on this kit are replicas of the original. EXCEPT the height is 41 1/2" :)http://www.iwsconsultants.com/cars/knockhill/gt404.jpg

The blue helmet is me :) If you look close you can see the video camera. Once we find enough space or a streaming video server I'll put the Radical in-car shots up for everyone to enjoy.http://www.iwsconsultants.com/cars/knockhill/rad1.jpg

a local company here called Roaring Fourties is regarded as building the best quality GT40 replica's in the world. i dont know if they keep to the original 40.5 odd inches height the originals had or go for something closer to the 44 inches the new Ford GT has

The GT40 in the first post looks like a replica to me. The intakes and the nose clips are not correct. The wheels/tires look odd and the dimensions seem off as well; the nose is too long.

Two things I see:

The wheels. If it were real, it would probably have knockoffs. I may be wrong, but it's a guess.

Two, the air scoops in the rear are reminiscent of the MKII, with the 427, which was definately not street legal. The only one that was was the MKIII, and that one had a higher front end to make sure the headlights were at the legal limit. It humps a little, but I think the real thing is more pronounced.

Lastly, it was in a parking lot! Real GT40's sell for more than 250K easily, and such a fine example could quite easily see more than that.

Well, It was in a Racetrack paddock, and the owner was nearby. Not a parking lot ;)

I see...well, I saw a roaring forties GT somewhere today, and the hood scoop pattern is identical...but who cares...the replicas are so nice. I saw two gt40's at watkin's glen a year ago...great looking car, one was a gold mk2 i think, the other a racing mk1.

At the Goodwood Revival 05 there were 8 in one race but they were only 289s (4.7litre) not 427s (7litre) but still, they were absolutely rapid. And the noise they made....!

I saw one racing at Donnington in a Classics race a few years ago. I assumed it was a replica, as they're so rare and the guy was driving it, well, very badly. I can't imagine the owner of a real GT40 would allow it to be thrown around like this guy was throwing it around. (He kept losing it on the long right-hander at the end of the start/finish straight ... EVERY LAP!! - yup - he's in the gravel again ... *yawn* ;))

there were five at the last Silverstone Classic, one driven by Jackie Oliver, one by Adrian Newey (his own car) the blue one posted driven by John Hugenholtz, five times winner of the modern Tour Auto, also with this car, and two more...

It is a kit car - the wheels are not original, but definately a top manufactured one!! IMHO.
