Got this off another website, thats an amazing time

And as part of the preparations, the 450bhp V6-engined, four-wheel-drive machine is aiming to make a series of record-breaking runs at the legendary Nürburgring circuit in Germany. It was heading there when our spies saw the car - and snapped this first picture of the interior.

According to experts, the newcomer is currently completing laps of the demanding track in only seven minutes, 15 seconds - which means the Nissan is averaging as much as 110mph! The assessments are being carried out while the car is still in its disguised form, with black masking covering the nose and rear end. However, what is clear - thanks to our exclusive picture of the cabin - is that an LCD display will take pride of place in the centre of the GT-R's dashboard.

The latest Nissan will get a semi-automatic gearbox and bucket-style racing seats, too. Company bosses have yet to confirm when the car will go on sale in this country. However, it's believed the new Skyline could set buyers back more than £55,000 should they wish to import one personally from Japan.

Wow. Awesome performance. I can't wait to see the final version! I just hope we won't read stupid comments like "Meh. 7'15. I can do 3'58 with my 1300 hp R34 y0o."

Well you see Fiestadavid, any "stupid comments" would automatically be redundant because of the 7:15 claim already made when the caliber of vehicle required to make such a time is considered.

The production GTR is as likely to do a 7:15 around the Nuburgring as it is to be powered by admiring glances.

Not too likely since they clearly appear to have finished the principle solutions phase and are now in the last bit of the detailing phase... Nissan won't be too happy to make any big changes by now as it'd be like redesigning the entire car

I heard from a guy whose brother works for a company that was kinda involved in building the new GTR, and he said that the Skyline really ran a 32 second lap, but it was so fast that no one could see the car, so they had to detune it. True story.

Surely the very principle of testing is the process of finding the best solution in the interest of improvement.

Changes don't have to total re-design. For example, what if they running a series of tests on different tyres, to decide which one they were to use when it goes on sale? How about tweaks to the transmission's software?

It's all somewhat irrelevant anyway. It's all just autoexpress conjecture, just for a change.

*Breaking news*

Some have questioned the legitimacy of these claims but the truth is that this is merely the tip of an iceberg of records set to fall.
The reason for this can be traced to one important development, the new GTR will be using a revolutionary power source : Fanboy enthusiasm. Nissan engineers have managed to extract and harness this immensely potent and combustible element directly from the fanboys through their preferred medium, internet forums.
Reportedly not only is this fuel powerful, it is also infinitely renewable. It's economical too, tests have shown that a car can run for weeks on the fanboyism produced from a single paragraph of unfounded rumor.

Of course pollution is a major concern, with fanboys already responsible for a massive 95% of internet rubbish. But like Bill gates said "You can't stop the internet and you can't stop me".

...what?

The 997 GT3 completes a lap in 7:42, so the Turbo with a lot more HP should do it in a lot less time. But the GT-R has always been designed to conquer the 911 Turbo. Thus, the GT-R is as fast or possibly faster than a (997) 911 Turbo.

monaroCountry

I doubt this, not with a havy car and only 450-480hp. The 7.15 time is absolutely unrealistic.

First off, the GT3 is a track car and should run the ring faster then a turbo, second you said 'Sub 7:42' which is redundent because 7:15 is sub 7:42.

kingofthering
05-14-2007, 08:02 PM
Sorry, I should have cleared it up, what I meant to say was that it takes approximately 7:42 for a lap, maybe a bit less, maybe a bit more.

edit- Also, the old GT-R did it in 7:54 with 280-ish HP so it should be less than that.

Except that Nissan fudged up the result to show a better better time. Independant tests from European mags have shown the stock GTR can only go around the ring at around 8.28.

But the R33 GT-R was known to do 7:56 (it was in an Evo issue, long time ago). How can the R34 be slower than the R33?

Viper007
05-15-2007, 12:12 AM
Given that the R33 and R34 ran the ring in 7:56 and 7:54 (from posts above), I believe it illogical to think that the new one will run even remotely close to 7:15. Personally I think the car will be greatly balanced, but will not be one to keep up with the new turbo.

IWantAnAudiRS6
05-15-2007, 09:15 AM
The R33, which managed a very Hollywood 7:59, had 183bhp/tonne.

The new Skyline will have better aerodynamics (the R33 had a shocking 0.35Cd), more onboard sophistication than ever before, and also will have around 250bhp/tonne (taking a 450bhp/1800kg specification into question).

I don't think it'll see 7:15, but you never know.

Regarding the GTR's sub 8 minute supposed record, here is the true story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The times below were set by professional European drivers who have vast experiences driving fast cars and driving around the ring.

Apparently the sub 8 min Skyline GTR R33 had full slicks, non standard boost, chipped computer, and limiters removed.

The best you could expect from a GTR around the ring would be 8min 28.1 sec.

AUTOCAR NURBURGRING ARTICLE

The Caterham's rear tyres howl in protest as I stroke its nose deftly through the Nurburgring's final corner. The crowd rises to its feet and a sea of Union Jacks are waved as I cross the line in record time. Then, through the mayhem, someone hands me a huge white telephone, ringing out above the cacophony...

Monday, 4.50am: the bedside alarm rudely terminates my dream and I remember that there's a new Porsche 911 parked outside. My aim today is to cross the Channel and drive to the Nordschleife in Germany to meet the men from Caterham, as well as a legend called Stefan and his extraordinary "Yellow Bird" Ruf Porsche.

Our goal could scarcely be more simple. We want to break the production car lap record for the famous old 12.95-mile Nurburgring. Currently it stands at 7min 59sec, set by a Nissan Skyline GTR in 1995. But given that the Skyline set the time during its development stage and was free of the speed limiter that prevents UK versions from doing more than 156mph, we can no longer count it as the true production car record holder. Especially as it's far from clear how much turbo boost the GTR was running during the lap, or how much tweaking the rear-wheel steer system had undergone.

So for these reasons and more, the standard production car lap record will no longer belong to the Skyline after this event; it will instead hold the record for a modified road car. Unless, of course, the unchipped, unfettled GTR that colleague Allan Muir is due to arrive in tomorrow can match, or perhaps better, that 7min 59sec time...

Caterham Superlight R: 8min 6.2sec
Ruf CTR II: 8min 15.0sec
Nissan Skyline GTR: 8min 28.1 sec
Porsche 911 Carrera: 8min 38.4sec

Thanks to Bridgestone for all its tyres

That's very interesting indeed, but the issues I'm talking about was from about 2000 and it featured all the cars that had done sub-8 minute laps. Amongst them they were the 911 GT3, the Super Seven Superlight R500 or the R33 GT-R. I can try to find it if you are interested.

WEIGHT

The r34 despite its torque increases and other such refinements was a heavy beast much heavier then the r33.

Its also this reason why the r32 GT-R was the fastest on the 1/4 :)
