I guess I'm the first one to post this.:D found it on vwvortex.com
VW has gone mad:D Well Volkswagen has pulled a fast one (literally) and decided to unveil a W12 powered, rear-wheel-drive, mid-engined GTI at the tuner/drunk/party fest in Austria known as Worthersee.

VW claims a top speed of 202 mph
- 6.0l W12 12-cylinder twin-turbocharged engine mounted in the back seat of the GTI
- 650hp and 553 lb-ft. of torque (!)
- with the flared fenders that car sits over 6 feet wide and only 4.6 feet tall
- 19" wheels with 295 rear rubber and 235 front rubber
- the fenders are flared 3.15" at the rear

I really dig this:cool:

That is insane!!

But it's basically a rip-off of the Clio V6... ;)

Actually, the Metro 6R4 and Renault 5 Turbo 1, for that matter.

After seeing this Quiggs has gone under a 72 hour fap fest.

650hp W12+light car+RWD=insanity at its highest hour.

Now if only they made one in black for us to look at.

I'm pretty sure Quiggs will need medical attention after this.

This car is awesome if it actually is true.

And yet the Volkswagen says nothing to me. It hasn't got the charisma, character or purpose of the others. Oh and while we are at it count in the 205 T16 and the Delta S4 too. ;)

Quiggs, I think you need to account for the time spent inbetween seeing the W12 Concept and coming here. Was it spent in some manner or another pleasuring yourself whilst looking on said car?

Completely agree. It is, yet again, a completely sterile VAG product. Not to mention hidious. I wouldn't be seen driving one of those yikes.

Bugger, I was about to post about this! lol, W12 Golf, sheer madness, 650bhp in a family hatchback, well, not anymore...
Me wants. Is the VAG W12 engine not just 2 of the old 3.0V6 engines coupled together?

The W12 engine are two VR6 narrow angle engines bolted together.

and here i am thinking that VW were very calm ppl........and wouldnt suddenly go spastic and drop a car on a engine.....you cant seriously think that that engine was built for that car..... the golf you can buy now is like that.....jus look at this thing!!!!! sorry but i choose life over this car

even though i am currently putting a 1300cc suzuki hiobussa engine in the middle of a mini :D yeah thats about the same hey

What displacement were the VR6's? 2.8?

jediali
05-22-2007, 10:04 AM
the vr6 started as 2.8 and grew to 3.2, the W12 has always been about 6 litre, the unique 72 degree mating of two 12 degree v6's (vr6s) is the significant bit.Thw W12 is clever and compact, just not so good at heat dissapation. It is restricted by its very short crankpins/ thin con-rods and is in general restricted to undersquare bore/stroke ratios, (while the W16 in the veyron has a square bore:stroke ratio- this is a W12 x 1.5, longitudonally)

A 6.0l W12 is logically 2 x 3.0 Vr6.

eg:

current R32 VR6 - bore * stroke 84 x 95.9 mm (note R36/passat has 89.0 x 96.4 mm)
W12 (phaeton/bent gt) - bore * stroke 84 x 90.20 mm

Couldn't the W16 in the Veyron be losely based in the 4-litre W8 engine from the Passat W8? I always thought it was, but I don't really have the evidence tu support it.

By the way you note the Passat's VR6 has a different bore from the usual VR6. That's because it's a new VR6 with direct fuel injection. However all the other cars that have the VR6 still have the old indirect fuel injection engines.

The W8 is probably made on the same line too. You may be right.:)

The R36, 3.6 litre engine has a larger stroke and wider V angle to gain the extra capacity. FSI can be applied at any capacity i guess, FSI will allow a higher compression ratio, but doesnt necesarily mean the engine needs to be bigger:rolleyes:

I could be mistaken, but I think FSI needs a bigger bore to fit the injectors (or whatever). The V10 in the S8 has bigger bore than the V10 in the Gallardo, and again the difference is direct fuel injection.

No. The bigger bore in the Audi version of the V10 is due to the fact that Audi's production lines run a common bore across all engines (92mm IIRC) so when they started dumping the V10 in the nose of their cars they redesigned it for a 92mm bore, making a 5.2 rather 5 litre.

As for FSI, if anything it'd only mean a slightly bigger head, though not necessarily. The reason the RS4 V8 is on 4v rather than 5v as in the normal S4 is that they used one of the valves to fit the FSI injector into.
