The RX-8...

As copied from another thread:

I've seen numerous RX-8s on the road, and they look fantastic. I got to see one really up close last friday, at a mates place. In the car park where we were playing footy there was a dark grey RX-8, looks great in that colour, really dramatic. It was parked right next to the goal so I had a really good look at it. Love every aspect of it, from the roofline to the rear light detailing, an excellent piece of design. The guy who owned it came along a few minutes later and drove off, very interesting engine note... kind of irregular, like the sound of a Porsche flat-six, but threatening.

One of my favorite 'everyday' cars on the road.

Its between the s2000 and the RX-8; the r32 may carry a v6 but the chassis etc were not built primarily for this performance level, its alot heavier than the other cars which would influence the performance dramatically compared to the likes of the s2000.The R32 its more like a boy racer tweaked by VW.As the s2000 and the RX-8 are built for one purpose only, so the cars performance is based around that only. As for the Integra, it never made it big as it was inbetween the Civic Type-R and the Accord Type-R and the civic is more or less the same but smaller and lighter, making it better to drive. Therefore there was no appeal towards drivers to buy an Integra, so it proves no threat at all towards the Mazda and the s2000.

I wanted to make the thread including only the S2000 and the RX-8 but wanted to give everyone more choices :)

Didn't know really what to put, so just threw in the R32 and the Integra R.

Integra R is front wheel drive and the R32 is a little bit too heavy due to its V6 and the AWD system. But oh well.

The S2000 is a bit peaky, 240hp at 8300rpm, and 151lb ft at 7500, versus 230hp@8500* and 156lb ft@ 5500 for the RX8

*In the UK there are two variants, High Power, with the above outputs, and Low Power, with 192 bhp and slightly higher torque of 162.

The fact that peak torque is available lower down the rev range, means that the RX8 will be easier to drive at a normal everyday pace. I can imagine that having to spin the engine up to 7500+ every time you want a decent bit of shove might be a novelty that would wear off in the S2000.

The delivery in both power and torque is much smoother with the RX8, rather than the second wind effect of the VTEC in the Honda. :)

Rx-8, Cons: Little Torque, But It Would Not Use It To Tow Anything

Integra only if it was the first generation one, I don't like this new one, but from these it would be the RX-8, but with no rear doors :p

You're right, it is a crazy comparison. Depends what you're after. I'd say the s2000 if you after a fun drive- but as far as performance goes- the R32 would have to be my number one. Even with the typical and frustrating short first gear that the Volkswagen six-speeds are plagued with.

It would be the fastest (although a Japanese-spec Integra would give it a go) and it is the most stable- being built on Audi technology.

I believe the old model Audi S3 (1.8T) was faster on the track and hill climbs than the RX-8. And the R32 is about on par with that same S3 (even with the 3.2L V6).

Also- I find german cars usually have a better feeling of balance and security than the Japanese cars which often feel tin-like and a bit plastic-fantastic.

But that is my opinion anyways. Each to his own.
