Tough choice. I'm sure both are great cars, but when it comes to delivering OTT thrills you can't beat a Ferrari.

They're both awesome...I'd probably take the F430 though...

I'd prefer a 911 GT3 RS to a GT2.
It's down on power but it's the Porsche equivalent to que 430 Scuderia.

F430.... You can call me a wus, but I don't feel confident enough in my own abilities to drive a rear engined rwd car with 530hp any where near its limits.

Ok you can maybe slide F430 in between GT3 RS and GT2...

F430. i saw this review of the 997 GT3 & the driver said that there was something wrong with the chasis and so it isnt capable of cornering around very tight bends.

Ferraris have V12 engines, therefore the 911, but I'd do a McReis if possible.

Ok then...why'd you pick the 911 :p

Oh wait I see, you don't respect the F430 because it doesn't have a V12 and you think the best Ferraris do?

Exactly. :)

(Not the best, proper Ferraris have V12s ;))

Hmm, but the "properest" Ferraris are racing cars, are they not? So since the F430 Scuderia is a homologation of sorts...it is in fact more "proper" then any V12 Ferrari currently on the market :D

No, it's just a Dino with a Ferrari badge in the nose.

Man, you're more of a purist than I am. However, in light of cars like the 1962 268 SP I've learned to accept the 430 Scuderia.

Ferrari even had 4 cylinder racing cars, like the 860 Monza for instance, but if I was to have a Ferrari it would have to be a V12.

well, the scuderia looks like complete ass, those gold rims and the rear.. *shudder*
so i'd say the GT2, no doubt it's scary as well. but i would prefer a GT3RS, and if there was a way to get the scuderia equipment ina standard looking 430...

I would take the F430 Scuderia. It is lighter, naturally aspirated, and mid-engined; three very good things in my eyes.

I don't like the silly rear-enginedness of 911s or turbocharging so it's a no brainier for me.

Ferrer, you are so damn picky... I like your style!

I think I would end up taking the Ferrari F430 Scuderia as well. Just so much heritage behind the Ferrari name, beautiful car in general, and mid engined.

The F430 is marvelous, no doubt about it.

Considering that some nut (http://germancarscene.com/2007/08/08/porsche-997-gt2-732/) circled the 'Ring in 7:32 in a GT2 vs. the F430's best of 7:55, I'd probably take the GT2 though...

First: thats not a great comparsion...

Second: was it a F430 Scuderia that made the 7:55?

First: thats not a great comparsion...

Second: was it a F430 Scuderia that made the 7:55?

Agreed. I don't usually rate comparos such as those very highly since I always think that the car that 'lost' could be driven faster around any particular track.

...But 7:32? Around the 'Ring? That's mighty impressive. Even more impressive if you read it like so --> Seven Minutes Thirty-Two Friggin' Seconds.
Just. Wow.

ADDED IN: To be fair though, I couldn't find any official story yet, so whether 'special' tyres or other steroids of the automotive sort were used is anyone's guess.

That's the first part, the second part:

I imagine not, but 7:55 is plenty fast in itself. The Scuderia with it's trick rubber, higher power and lighter weight will probably shave quite a lot of seconds off. It'll probably also cost a few bank-robberies more as well (not a valid argument with these cars I know).

Closing off: I love both the F430 and GT2, but in my books the GT2 wins by a smidgen.

Shouldn't it be: 997 GT3 RS vs 430 Scuderia vs Gallardo Superleggera?

Kooper

Mmmm...

Canuck, you're right it seems. The source of this claim states that Porsche themselves lay claim to the figure of 7:32 in their brochure.

Now I know Porsche usually do not make inaccurate claims (as far as I know) when it comes to performance, but still, makes the claim that much harder to chew on.

Anyway, original story here (http://www.motorauthority.com/news/coupes/porsche-claims-new-gt2-will-do-the-nordschleife-in-732/).

No way. The GT3 RS is nowhere in the league of the other cars in terms of horsepower; it has only 415 hp. The comparison definitely should be between the GT2, F430 Scuderia, and Gallardo Superlegerra.

The GT2 has 530 hp.
The Scuderia has 510 hp.
The Superlegerra has 530 hp.

Makes sense?

Power-wise it does... but the GT3 RS compares better to the F430 Scuderia imo because of its more track-oriented approach.

Ok let's wait for the GT2 RS if and when it comes out then. That will make for a fair comparison.

they've done it before haven't they? wasn't there a 993 GT2RS? not sure

the F430 goes from 0-62 in 3.5secs and the power to weight ratio is 0.38 bhp / kg
while the GT2 is 0-62 in 3.6secs 0.37 bhp / kg

awefully close but F430 anytime anyday!((:
