This comp is wasted.... there are sooooo many pics here that could easily win some other comp's #1 .... but this round the standards are just wayyyyyy toooo high.... especially that seemingly cheating pic from piackki... ha! .... awesome pics guys... salute to all.

if i ever catch a bolt its because i take a still from a video and its still not that great of quality, so maybe thats the highest res hes got

EDIT: just saw that he changed the shutter speed for 30 seconds so yes please give us high res :)

Wow, lightning and a tornado in one capture. Crazy, nice shot man, gets my vote. Also, agreeing that not taking my camera out for the meteors last night was a bad idea.

When I was scrolling down this list of pics I was like: 'Wow these pics are amazing, it's going to be hard to chose a winner for me. They are all good.' But then I saw Piacki's and that simply did it for me.

Nonetheless, all pictures in this thread are awesome.

i have a question, am I allowed to take a picture of a picture?

i know this is borderline cheating, but i'm just wondering,

for example (and i know i wouldn't get many votes if i did this, but its just an example) if i took a picture of the mona lisa, or a famous photograph? could i enter it into the comp?

piackii thats the kind of picture you see on the front page of the newspaper after the storm subsides, with the headlines ACT OF GOD or sthng ;P

I think it could be allowed for paintings but not for actual pictures taken with cameras. But making a photograph of a painting isn't that special, unless you find a way to make it look really cool (special light or something).
