No B-Spec for this Grand Prix.

Spyker delay launch of B-spec car

Spyker have been forced to postpone the launch of their new B-spec car until the Italian Grand Prix due to it unexpectedly failing the rear impact test. The team will now contest this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix with two A-spec machines.

“It's obviously very disappointing to delay the launch, especially considering the hard work that everyone at the factory and track has put in,” commented chief technical officer, Mike Gascoyne.

“Unfortunately last week we had an unexpected failure of the rear crash test, possibly due to problems with a batch of material used. Unfortunately all the other structures available we had to test were from this batch and the modifications we tried to make were not sufficient.

“These tests are quite rightly very stringent and difficult to pass, but we did not expect to have a problem as the structure is very similar to the A spec one. We are confident that we understand the problem however and should be able to pass with no problems next week.”

Gascoyne added: “We will now concentrate on doing the best we can this weekend. As we were aware we had a problem we brought two A-spec cars as well as two B-spec cars, so we will not have any problems switching back, but it's just disappointing not to have the performance increase as planned.

“On a more positive note, we will now be able to test the car at the pre-Italian Grand Prix test next week at Monza, which should allow us to be in better shape.”

Search for any Spyker F1 car and there it is... I don't think it will look mayor differently.

The manager (and one of the main financiers), called Michiel Mol, that just quit the team and factory talked about that yes. However so far there have not been any real plans.

In an article I read not so long ago, there he claimed that he would want to buy it. The factory kind of wants to get rid of it, because together with the GT project it eats money, without a real profit by any means.

Basically Spijker is still surviving because of the money various financiers are lending them. The factory itself didn't even make a profit, ever ! On top of that come all the racing projects. So in essence it is just a bankruptcy waiting to happen, a time bomb...

Pity as it was a project with the potential of being the third succesful Dutch manufacturer and a good boost for the HUGE automotive scene in the country.

It is a shame that Spyker has had so much trouble as an automaker and a racer. The car is real good looking and the race team has changed ownership so much it just needs financial stability and some real actual talent behind it to get it going.

Spyker just needs more investment into the company and the team.
