I recently found this pic on the net. It shows my great grandad at home with his car. This car was probably not too many years old at the time the photo was taken, which was in 1929 . The radiator insignia seems to resemble a Maltese Cross

:) I'd appreciate any contributions from the UCP experts as to identifying what make/model it was?

It is a Crossley.

List of Crossley cars in the 1920s is over here (http://www.crossley-motors.org.uk/history/1920.html).

this might even come very close to the car owned by your Granddad.

It is a Crossley, indeed, with a big four cylinder engine. Forgot to ask the owner what exactly the type is. It came to the paddock during the 2006 Silverstone Historic GP.

Thank you all and especially Revo

Indeed a Crossley and appears to be the 25/30 as per henk's picture ;)

Amazing what intimacies one can learn via the net and my G-G's choice of Crossley is likely explained via a shared connection in WW1, as per Revo's website. Long ago my Dad told me stories about this car but I had forgotten the brand. Nor did I previously know about Crossley buses (later AEC) which were once a predominant conveyance hereabouts

Thanks again :)
