Hello Ladies and Gents,

I found this on a website. New pics of a GT racing version of SLR McLaren 722. The SLR 722 GTR.

What do you think?

Can some one find Hi-res pics of this GT racing car version.

Thnx,
EL Nino

Looks like there's going to have to be one in 1/24 scale too.;)

Good afternoon to you. :D

Could this be a farewell model for the SLR?

Looks good and all but I'd be surprised if they even touched the engine.

They didn't, the specs are given in one of the picture, it develops 650 PS, just like the 'regular' 722.

Maybe this is Mercedes's response to Ferrari FXX. Just some track fun for rich people.

Exactly.

I got some infos from a good friend at AMG (so I'm the one Basman quoted in supercars.net) and he told me that it is an official car. You have to bring in your own SLR or they will buy one from the used car market and then the car will be updated to GTR spec. There won't be any racing series for it, if not the SLR Club would bring in one with the owners. There will be as much GTRs as there are customers for it. It won't be road-legal, if you don't know a nice guy in the license agency ;)

Name one modern GT racer with a manual gearbox.

Name one modern GT racer with a manual gearbox.

DB9, Corvette, 575LM (and the 599) all come with manual gearboxes on the road cars, and the racers run manual gearboxes.

Um, how about the whole FIA GT? This car, just like the road car, shifts for itself. That can be an incredible disadvantage on a race course.

The engine is not legal for GT1, so it will be a track-day car only. The FIA GT talk ridiculous speculation.

Sequential ≠ Automatic.

Name one modern GT racer that has a torque converter.

I don't see why they would need to do anything with the engine either - since when was 650PS not enough in a 1300kg car?

Oh, I know it wouldn't even remotely hit FIA GT standards. But that's really awkard to place an automatic in a race car like that.

if it's official why wasn't there any official presentation or press release... anything?

The guy who found it caught it be accident. Mercedes plans to release an official announcement very soon, probably just a few days now.

I think the dealership put it out in the open by mistake. That's only logical explanition. MB would never let something like this go unnoticed...

Those are the only pics of this car so far btw.

661 pounds shaved off.....that what it should have been on the standard SLR

I can't find it right now, but there is a picture of the car on the Nurburgring captured by the Webcam.

Looks good in the pics, would be nice to see an overall picture of the whole car without the watermarks, etc. I wouldn't turn down a lap in it.
