Triumph Herald 16v

My g/f really loves the Triumph Herald a old brittish car I think its cause her dad had one may years ago.

I have been doing a bit of reading up and found out that the Triumph Herald 16v was one of the first mass produced 16 engines in the UK.

Seems odd really as most cars in that day that were fast was the for capri which looked a bit like the mustang in fact I think that was fords idea a mustang for the UK market as it worked well back home, and of course the ford escort mk2 escort, RS 2000 which took a lona of the 2.0 engine from the ford cortiana.

Seems the Triumph Herald 16v didnt get around much which is strange cause it would have blown a rs2000 of the road :)

Well anyway i was thinking about picking a Triumph Herald for a few quid and restoreing it myself.

If any one has any experance with the old Triumphs then they could throw me some info.

Where did you find info on a 16V Herald ?
The Herald was a very old engine design and the best it ever got in standard production was the straight six in the Vitesse variant.
The Herald's suspensino was based on a 1950s design and was NOT capabile of keeping up with an RS2000. And the only Triumph engine of comparable size which came close to the RS was the Dolomite Sprint.
Was this perhaps what you've read about ? Or maybe a special conversion on the Herald ??
I'd love to know more.

Thats if it didnt disintegrate first. These things were not the last word in build quality.
