I didn't think they would have even considered this.

Pic 4 and 5 from post #4 isn't a 959.

Yeah, some 911s disguised. But still a bad idea. Monuments are not to be ruined, and a 959 is a monument.

Wow. Never knew they made this car. Would have been strange. Must be way heavier too, to make up for the lack of a roof.

I think Porsche only made one of those, but I might be mistaken.

As far as I can judge from the scanned article above (on French, pity), this wasn't built by Porsche.

Sorry, my bad! Porsche never made a 959 Cab, but a Swiss pilot built 959 replicas of 912s I think :)

A hideous Becker production. And it's a one-off.

Porsche didn't make any of these, but I do remember the car in the first pics from an article at the time, and it IS a 959. But worry not, no one actually chopped up a perfectly good 959, the car was crashed by its owner and rebuilt as a speedster. As I recall, they managed to salvage most of the roof to make a hard-top, and even made two sets of mirrors, one for the coupe, and a set of speedster mirrors.

You are right. Translated from the article:

Jürgen Lässig, a driver (notably at Le Mans) had a 959 and crashed it. Apparently he was doing 300 km/h when he saw an Audi 80 in front of him. Someone bought the car and asked Auto-Becker to work on it, using only genuine Porsche parts. It's a genuine 959. The windshield and retractable roof are from a 911 Speedster.

If anyone wants the article entirely translated let me know.
