Rather have this, than a Maybach 57 or 62

Look at the squared wheel arch at the back. Ive always thought that was quite odd.

I have a Fifth Gear episode with Jay Kay's.

I used to like the 600 a lot but when I look at it today I can't help to say it's ugly. It looks like a hearse on a funeral procession, especially the black version.
And the overall design: who could think nowadays a statuary looking car with sharp edges and corners would ever be allowed on a highway? The noise made by the wind must have been horrible. Wind channels were out of fashion at that time of the century, I guess. I also think the upright front with those headlights and the radiator is well out of proportion. The gaps between lights and radiator are embarassingly large.

OK, maybe just got out of the bed on my wrong foot today, but that's what I think about the design today.

Please remember: not trying to offend anybody here, just my own personal opinion, the engine's alright, no discussion there!!

There are other places where you post this question and this is not one of them. So I won't answer your question.

On topic: The Pullman is easily on of the coolest stretches ever.

Always have liked the heck out of these. The design's been described as an engineer's notion of styling, with some chrome tacked on wherever the engineers felt it should go. I still like this car a lot, though.

Yes, the car looks very functional, but the proportions are a little out of tune. It took a long time to accept designed cars as pieces of art at the head of Mercedes. That has changed a lot in the meanwhile, hasn't it? The engine is not everything. Creating visual emotions is important too.
But when I look at the styling long enough I like some details like the styling of the doors or the trunk. It's a classic alright.

Those Mercedes limos also didn't ride anywhere near as smooth as Cadillac limousines.
Here is an interesting comment from that car salesman Cal Worthington, whose commercials were on TV constantly in the '70s ("Go see Cal").
From Road Test, May, 1975...

"... They once sent me a big Mercedes to pick me up, a big Mercedes limousine. Beautiful thing. They wanted me to make a presentation over at the Hollywood Bowl. They sent this thing and I was so impressed... then I got in and it rode like a truck. And here a while back they sent another limousine to pick me up and it was a Cadillac. All the difference in the world."

Actually, this (my) '76 Cadillac limo would more likely be a car the mafia chose..

Or, to be even more accurate, a 1940s Cadillac limo, like the one pictured below...

Wasn't Al Capone very fond of his '29 V16 Sedan? I seem to recall it was even a Madame X model, but I'm not sure...
