I'm quite interested in this, and if it was too happen surely it would be something resembling a Caterham 7?

I assume you're talking about kilograms :)

Anyway, many dragsters have achieved numbers like this. Other than that, it's an extreme rarity. Nothing that I wouldn't be too scared to drive! ;)

superkaos makes turbo kits to put on suzuki GSXr1300 hayabusas, some of the turbo busas can get up to 700hp and considering the bike weighs 5-600lbs its pretty mazing/scary

Even the Minardi F1 easily qualifies for this distinction

Any current F1 car is in this category, they all weigh about 600 kg and have over 900 bhp.

true true. reminding me of extreme horses, i was thinking yesterday what sort of acceleration a car like this would have. possibly 0-100km/h in low 2's? i can hardly imagine

The Tiger Z-100 managed 2.9 ( on street setup and tyres ) and it's 550kg, 510bHp per ton
2 engines 4WD :)
The new MkII uses 2 GSX-R 1000 engines and is putting out 600bhp but nobody has done an official 0-60 time yet :) Might be a candidate for the middle 2s !!

Thats some pretty sick acceleration, especially for street tyres.

Anything with less than 2lbs per hp is really quick.

what measurment of weight? kilo?
any formula one car will qualify, bmw williams is 600 kg 900hp which is highest of all of the f1 cars i think

KG's. And i'm only interested in road legal cars..

u would need one hell of an engine, i dont think any N/A car can produce that type of power while still remain drivable at low revs (F1 engines need to rev to above 10,000 rpm)
perhaps a twin or even quad turbo may be needed
... imagine this ... a turbo for each cylinder LOL

Any current F1 car is in this category, they all weigh about 600 kg and have over 900 bhp.

Units must be specified. In the US the F1 car weighs 1320 lbs and still has only 900 hp. Or at hp per ton, practically every vehicle produced today has more HP than tons of weight - even US short tons.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned dragsters. US NHRA Top Fuel Dragsters are the most powerful four wheeled vehicles on earth. There is no accurate measure of horsepower for these vehicles. Numbers of 5,000 or even 8,000 horsepower are bandied about. However, one thing is certain; covering a quarter mile in about 4 seconds while reaching a speed of up to 330 MPH requires mammoth horsepower. I watched these machines at the Gatornationals outside Gainsville, FL a month or so ago.

The sound is physical. One hundred yards from the track, one can FEEL the sound. At trackside, it is punishing. One of these machines develops more power than the first eight rows at a NASCAR race. This is a sight that must be witnessed to be believed.

However, I don't think the initiator of this thread had dragsters in mind. If tons/hp is used, all cars qualify. If kg/hp is used many cars qualify. If lbs/hp is used, no sports racing cars qualify; only drag cars. Closest would probably be the turbo-charged F1 cars before the turbo was banned. At 500 kg, they developed more than 1000 hp.

ABC Sports set up timing devices and track to car communications at Hochingheim to clock Senna in a Williams. He did 0 to 100 MPH to 0 in 5.1 seconds. This is the performance that could be expected from a sports racer at near 1:1 hp/lbs.

KG's. And i'm only interested in road legal cars..

Walley Larson's LE-1 "Groundfigher" is street legal, and it easily surpasses the hp/weight ratio (in kg)... with 2000hp on tap, that would be hard not to do!

This guy I saw once raced a 700 lb frame (practically) of a drag car with an Inline 4 burning alcohol at 650 hp. close....
