if someone could tell me what's going on with those engines on the tarp and in the moke... because all i can tell is that it looks like they've taken the head off something else and stuck it on?

It looks like a twin-cam and cross-flow conversion.

custom? or bits lifted from something else? kinda reminds me of a honda engine in some ways. i think i have a promo card from the stall so might ring if i can find it.

There were custom cross-flow twincam heads made in England for a while.. I saw one in a mini down at my local mini garage once when I was in Perth. Apparently they're pretty damn effective at opening up the top end of the rev range for a worked 1275. I think that one had a weber of some description bolted to the front of it too.

Can't place what that head is off originally.
VERY common to see that for Minis now as the best/easiest way to get ooodles of power :)
Also compelte engine transplants are common with frames available to use.
You might find more at www.16vminiclub.com :: Index (http://16vminiclub.com/forums/index.php) but no guarantees

okay apparently the head is off a 4cyl BMW motorbike engine... the whole package seems to be monstrously tall!

well the guy who did the ones in the pic live locally..with mine i was going to do the basic s/c + cam route, but these do look interesting...and if they're cheapish...
the thing is they do look a lot taller, may not clear the bonnet haha

the clubman front end? all local built mini's did iirc. round nosed ones were imported, well at least mine was

I like the surpercharged mini, and the twin cam( is very tall though ) conversion engines have a lovely set of primary pipes on them:)

A guy who races with us has a supercharged big bore mini:eek:

i think i'll stick to the basic cam + s/c.. the twin cam is very tempting powerband/top end wise but how the hell do i make it fit in something that is not a moke haha
