Also many of our British members have trouble trying to 'center' their images using the [center] tags. They always mistype it as [centre].

Sorry I was bored.

Sorry I was bored.

I think pretty much all English speaking countries other than you guys spell words properly.

Mind you, let's not get started on Aluminum/Aluminium.

My Mom is from Scotland and has the affliction of speaking mildly funny and saying/spelling Aluminum wrong. Aluminium sounds retarded.

WOW! Awsome shot JT! Im green with envy!

Thanks! This is one of those pictures that makes ME happy. I had visualized this shot for months... years really. My schedule never allowed for me to get to a vintage race. Three things I'm a huge fan of, black & white, images from people like Jesse Alexander (http://www.wheelsonwalls.com/jesse-alexander-collection/the-passion/), Louis Klementaski (http://www.wheelsonwalls.com/feature-gallery/louis-klemantaski/), Nigel Snowdon (http://www.wheelsonwalls.com/feature-gallery/nigel-snowdon/) etc., and the old Trans-Am Series (http://www.wheelsonwalls.com/pete-lyons/trans-am-1970/) pony wars of the 70's.

Well, this year I was contracted to shoot the full season for Mid-Ohio... at least their major events, 5 in all. On the schedule was the Vintage Grand Prix. Mid-Ohio was the quintessential Trans-Am track in the heyday of what was referred to as "The Pony Wars." The big American manufacturers (GM, Ford, Chrysler, AMC,) all turned out with unlimited budgets and HORESPOWER.

This corner is at the top of a section called Madness.

So, in my mind... I wanted to reproduce this photo with all the look of that era... including the look of film.

Now, if we could just get rid of the full face helmet. LOL

But, thanks for the comment. I appreciate it. As I posted the other day, I post pictures that for one reason or another personally satisfy me. So it's nice to know someone esle enjoys them too.

JT

This is an actual shot from the 70's at the same corner... it was taken by Pete Lyons (http://www.wheelsonwalls.com/pete-lyons/trans-am-1970/)

The colour version is the entry, but having read Johns post about the Pony wars I gave it a try as black and white. It does render a picture of the old Goodwood atmosphere, where those cars were battling in earnest.

I have a rather large collection of black and white negs of ships, shot between 1980-1990, but I have now broken up my dark room.
Edit: Just glanced through your tutorial. I did a simple grayscale switch. As an added remark, your sample helmet shot looks a bit out-of-period with a .com extension clearly readable.....

Not to mention the full face helmet. That is the one thing I think Goodwood is doing right... really pushing people to get into the entire period thing. Every time I see historics here, the helmets just ruin the whole look.

and the car mounted video cameras, of which I saw a few at Goodwood as well.....
