Very cool, not sure i like the front of the design though. Love the rest.
Oh, and here's a thread about it: http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/american-cars/35114-splinter.html

What the Fu** are you talking about... Wood is not a material up to the job of carbon fiber, fiber glass, aluminum, steel, and kevlar. Also, a supercar made of wood should be called a "termite's dream"...

actually, wood is already used in other exotic cars (like Morgan, even new ones) and in a lot of modern car with its derivatives.

And anyway it's not like steel cars can't rust...

and carbon fiber cars are not immune to having their panels ripped off by ricers so that they can cover their civic in cf. :p

Don't you think that the wood would be treated against that? They're making a car out of wood, tell me why they wouldn't get it treated, its just silly if your going making a supercar out of it.

Also whoever is making this is out to prove that wood can be as effective as Carbon Fiber, fiber glass, aluminum, steel and Kevlar. But whatever it may not be as practical.

Hey, GM uses wood in the Corvettes including the ZR1. In the right applications it's a great material.

Remember that wood is stronger pound-for-pound than nearly all synthetics.
It's torsional rigidity is dependant on how it's laminated, just as other materials require in composite construction.
If organic polymers are used, this could be an interesting approach to "green" automotive manufacturing.
The obvious comparison for this project are the old cold-molded racing sloops of the 1930s-60s. Strong, durable, and light.

For automotive harbingers, just think of Jem Marsh and Frank Costin. :D

There have also been several plywood-framed vehicles developed for third-world applications over the past 4 decades.
Some worked, some didn't. I would think road and usage conditions limited their success, not termites.

DeHavilland Mosquitoes prove how awesome wood is.
