What's the best way to do so?

Once I open a big bottle of Coke, say 1,5 litres or more, how should I store it to prevent the gas from exiting it even though I close it as hard as possible?


Should I store it upside up, upside down or should I lay it horizontally?

There must be an answer.

position of the bottle won't help much. Try wrapping the top with clear-plastic wrap and then capping it over that. Also giving it a good shake before putting it in the refridgerator should help.

And now, a useful answer: There are little hand pumps available designed to do this job, they pump air into the bottle to pressurise the airspace. This lowers the rate at which it goes flat. Not sure how avaliable they'd be over there though.

Keep it as close to air tight as possible and cold.

The colder it is the more CO2 there will be.

yep I've seen those, it helps a bit.....

personally thats the reason why I avoid plastic bottle, hard to finish in one go and they usually tastes worse....

get soda bulbs from the hardware and every time you open the bottle, put a soda bulb in it.

(Soda bulbs are a small container containing pressurised CO2)

I have one of these. Its a small rubber balloon shaped thing that sits on the top of a screw top. You squeeze the balloon and it forces air into the bottle, there is a little valve in the cap that lets air in but none out so you can build up quite a bit of pressure. It's kept a bottle fizzy for a week or more...

this is the first solution.

the second is to push all the air out of the bottle and then close it, so to reduce the volume available for the gas. then, putting the bottle in a cold place (you don't need refrigerator or similar, would prevent the gas to expand with enough force to expand the bottle too. it works, I guarantee.

Simply close it very very tightly, using a towel or something for extra grip. Been doing it forr years here, apart from some trouble opening sometimes, it works fine..
