That makes much sense, since you are totally right.

Two different cars. The one in this thread is a 908, and the other, the 917.

But i didn't know that they made one road going version of the 908, so thanks alot MoS

They did use the 908 in the Tour de France, (and still do in Tour Auto) so there has always been an element of a road car. The 917 was never used on the road AFAIK.

Also 906, 907 and 910 where road-registered for some races as well (Targa Florio just as an example). Saw a 907 and a 910 with german license plates this year.

They did use the 908 in the Tour de France, (and still do in Tour Auto) so there has always been an element of a road car. The 917 was never used on the road AFAIK.
I've seen pics of a 917 with a number plate.

There were also Matras used in the Tour de France back in the 70's.

Yes I know that, but we were talking about Porsches;) (also a Matra does the Tour Auto sometimes)
