View Full Version : Favourite Engine Poll

After research the following engine nominations were received and are displayed in order of suggestion. I'm afraid polls are limited to 10 so the following have had to be removed (sorry)

912 Porsche 917 (NA Flat 12), Any 7.0l Nascar :) (NA V8) (Might I suggest using the corvette?), VWAG 1.8T 20V Golf etc...(T Straight 4), N5F Escort Cosworth (T Inline 4).

Might I suggest adding the 4 cylinder engines to the 4 cylinder engine thread?

Key;
NA = Normal Aspiration, TT = Twin Turbos, S = Supercharged, T = Turbocharged

Thankyou all for your suggestions.

There's an English saying called either "You've missed the last bus" or "You've missed the last boat"; basically you're too late.

Is that F130 Ferrari engine anything like the three-liter V12's in the 250-series Ferraris? If so, I'll go with that, and if not, the NASCAR V8 - My dad's Mach 1's engine is pretty closely related to the Ford NASCAR V8, they're both Cleveland designs :D

The XKE V12 was a disaster. Why is it in here?

I love my V8s, especially if they're Yank, but they need a little tuning to get the best out of 'em... naturally, an all time favourite is Audi's biturbo V8!

Out of those, The 1.5 litre V16 in the BRM V16.

I like Westlake V8s and Jaguar Straight Sixes.

No.

Its the V12 derived from the 199something F1 car, and saw service powering the F50 and 333SP race car.

That would have been my choice if it weren't for the BMW unit that powers the Mclaren F1.

My three favorite engines:

- Mopar 426-Hemi ('66-'71)

- Cadillac 472 (the '68-'70 high-compression ones)

- Mopar 440 Magnum ('67-'71)

Agreed, once you have heard that one there is nothing coming even close. Somewhere on these forums there is a thread that has a sound track, it was part of a complementary CD given to Motorsport subscribers, where Simon Taylor interviewed Nick Mason about his collection of cars. There is also the D-Type, the 250GTO, the Ferrari 512S and some more being driven around Goodwood. Great stuff.

Gotcha. NASCAR V8's it is then!

SBC's > all. VW's VR6 is probably my fanboy favorite with the 1.8T right behind that.

Edit for picture of Vee Arr Six. Everyone loves pictures.

I'd have to agree that SBC's are incredible. Cheap, reliable, infinitely tunable, has a huge aftermarket following, and any mechanic who's worth his weight in salt has had experience with them. Plus, they might just be IMHO the best sounding engines of all time (although Aston 6's and Ferraro 250-series V12's give it a run for its money)

Yes. I saw the car at Goodwood. Absolutely intoxicating to be passed by that wonderful machine. I never new 16 cylinders could sound so good. The main reason I like the car is because of the engine note. And, who cares if the car was a flop when it sounds this good. It isn't a flop any longer, that engine note is always mentioned at Goodwood.

IMO, the Murci doesn't sound quite so special as Lambos of old.

I'm pretty sure you'll love the sound of that BRM V16.

and deafening when they fire it up right in front of you :D The sound comes from the centrifugal compressor that made the car so difficult to control

Even better when the exhaust pops, more like bangs when it downchanges. I also admire the blipping of the throttle sound.
