COLLINSVILLE, Illinois - Pranksters in at least three states are messing with electronic road signs meant to warn motorists of possible traffic problems by putting drivers on notice about Nazi zombies and raptors. And highway safety officials aren't amused.

I saw that. It's all because someone posted how to hack into the signs. That's kind of funny, at the same time could be dangerous but most of the ones I see just say like "Expect delays" or "Construction Ahead" followed by 50 more signs saying it too.

I don't really think it's dangerous. People tend to slow down when they see those signs no matter what they say, and if they say something incongruous like "Caution: Nazi Zombies In Area." then people will just slow down that much more. The backlash hasn't been from the public here at all, but from (very self-important) Department Of Transportation. My favorite of the hacked signs flashes between "No One Has Ever" and "Loved You." priceless!

On my occasional drives in the USA I sometimes can't help thinking that the thread title is very appropriate, only the road is not closed....

Just a trendy practical joke. It'll die out soon, depending on how immature the guys are in your area.

They don't have old people in other countries?
American driving is extreme laziness punctuated by moments of intense aggression.
