I originally wanted to post this in a somewhat old thread, but it would've just given it away.

So, anyone here able to see what's wrong with this pic?

There's something on the dashboard, kind of a radio or a scanner/radar... there's also something that looks like a camera stuck on the window on the driver's side.

It's parked in what looks like a police station (you can see the reflections of a police vehicle on the side of the Corvette), so I'm guessing it's been turned into an unmarked police car?

Seems like Wake County are having fun with a (possibly confiscated) Z06. Or they have a lot of budget for phantom police cars.

It shows a Ford, a GM and a Chrysler product. Highly unusual these days.

I see an ambulance reflection, but no police car. I remember when I was in high school, a state trooper came to talk to our class, and he was driving a Camaro SS highway cruiser...everybody was more interested in his car than anything else he had to say.

David got it right. It is, in fact, an unmarked police car. Story goes that it was seized in a drug bust, and then got turned into a high speed pursuit car as well as ordinary patrol car.

most of the fart canned Fast & Bicurious street racers have either lost their cars or been arrested, so the ones left are the high horsepower, +500whp "Mexico" cars. With the Wake PD Chargers topping out at around 150mph, it was only a matter of time before they got something faster.

Cool stuff.

This Vette has nothing on what I once saw- a NY Taxi undercover Police car.

I noticed a taxi once do a U turn, and eventually it put strobes on and then I heard the siren. Surprised me for sure, even more than this Z06 would. :D

Yeah, you'd expect a brown guy in the drivers seat, not a fat Italian guy. :D

Just kidding, but it's certainly not something you'd expect.

Thats pretty slick. Ive been pulled over in Wake country, but only by marked cars at night.

Alamance country used to have a lot of tricks. Once saw a tan with landau top lincoln mk 8 with someone pulled over.

getting away from the cops has LITTLE to do with the ultimate top speed of your car / bike

If you can prove that a helicopter is cheaper, than you may have a point. I think In this case less taxpayer's money is being used. (and if everybody just stuck to the rules, the authorities might even consider lowering taxes;))

The police don't need a chopper, just a radio. You can't beat the speed of light.

The problem with that is then a fast car blows past the waiting car and they lose him in traffic and have no idea which car it is. Seattle had a Diablo siezed from a drug dealer as a DARE car for a while. They refused me a ride even after I offered them donuts.

Some additional facts I got yesterday: The driver refused to pull over even when the blue lights were flashing. He did eventually stop, appeared to be calm, and even consented to having his car searched. That's when they found two kilos of coke in the back.

As for not being able to outrun the radio, that is true, but radios do not always help. Especially when there are police scanners involved. Example; a Cobra was running a bike on the interstate. Cop came down from on-ramp and went after them. The bike had slowed down to 100 by the time the cop passed him going for the car. However, by then the Cobra was already doing +180, and managed to get away.

Choppers can't always be scrambled in time. Other police cars might very well not be in the area. Most of the time individual cars will be on their own long fr too long. As mentioned, the Chargers top out at 150, and the marked Interceptors at in between 110 and 120 depending on the model year. That's not a heck of a lot when they're trying to catch cars that'll do 0-120 in less than 10 secs. (This is just an example, but a Cobra with a Kenne Bell blower swap goes something like this YouTube - Kenne Bell Cobra 160+mph Speedo)

Video recordings are not always that useful because it - so far - is up to the cop to start recording. There is a new system about to be introduced that is hard drive based. It is constantly recording, but will only save starting 3 minutes before lights or sirens are switched on. There has been numerous examples of cars blowing by police cars only to slow down when out of sight. If the video got switched on too late, the police have no evidence and thus can't do anything

Yeah, taxis are ubiquitous in NY. It's the last thing you'd expect to be a police car.

Rasmus, not to be annoying, because I'm sure it's been brought up many times in the past, but chasing a car at 150+ or not, you're endangering the lives of others that much more. Unless you are sure you can direct the guy running from you so you don't cause any collateral damage, the police really shouldn't be chasing anyone. It's great if the guy wraps himself around a tree and kills himself only, but it's not so great when you take out some other people. I hope the police department using the Z06 knows that.

You're most definitely not annoying. It's a very valid point, and one I just so happen to share.

Police in Denmark are not allowed to do high speed pursuits, and they're almost never allowed to do fishtail maneuvres. Over here in the US, that's not quite the case.

Seen the chases in South Africa? Epic stuff. Like a freaking movie with M3s pursuing at high speed and cops hanging out the windows firing MP5s. But look at the number of carjackings there, people are demanding the police do something.

Thanks. It's certainly something that the police need to think about before they go all crazy and chase them. I mean, eventually, if they run long enough they run out of fuel anyway. Might as well tail them from a distance. There was a technology featured on Popular Science where there is a concentrated microwave emitted from a source that fries all the electronics on the car. Looks like a nice way to end things quickly. I just don't know what happened to it. Maybe it never got past the drawing board.

Yea but chances are they've already bought/have one or more. Selling the Z06 would have made more sense. Less tax dollars? This car is not cheap to fix. What are they gonna do when its time for a pit remover. "alright guys, I caught up to the suspect...now what do I do?" "Should I try and shoot my gun at his tires while going 100mph while driving a stick?":p

here in Edmonton, im pretty sure that we don't have these high performance cars in our police department and we totally don't have a helicopter in the police department either. we only have a helicopter for one of our news stations.

There was a guy near where I used to live who had a suped up datsun 240z that used to outrun the cops just for the lulz. Radios never did work until they got a car that could actually keep relatively close to him (sherrif was driving his T-bucket with a 327 at the time the call came in) and they finally got him. It was actually kind of sad.

Yessir, it's a 30's Ford T roadster -- or replica body shell -- with a rather ridiculously large V8. The Chevy 350 is a popular one because of it's small size, but you also see old school Hemis and Ford V8s in them. Rear tires are usually way over 300 wide.

I think there might be one or two at the cruise-in I'm going to this weekend. I'll get some pics and stories if anyone is interested.

teens and 20s.... i think 28 was the last year for the T. went to the model A after that. and they are really bizarre vehicles, often having well over 300 hp and a frame that is weaker than a paperclip.

Correct, my bad. I meant to say the T hotrodding and modding started in the 30s. I think the T-bucket term and car as such got coined sometime in the 50s. If I'm not mistaken, it was Norm Grabowski's Kookie that coined it.

These days they're mostly for shows, although they do pop up every now and again at the drag strips just for shits and giggles.

Anyone over 6ft tall will have to go origami on their legs to fit in a T-bucket. I, generally, have more room in a gokart.

one of my least favorite hot rod genres.. i much prefer the lines of a 33-34, or the late 40s- early 50s sedans, chopped and lowered. the buckets are kinda cool for being able to see every aspect of how the car works though. everything is on display.

Wow, that's cool. Thanks for the info guys.

Today I saw something new- a Ford Fusion undercover police car on Canal Street. Very slick with the strobes and all. And no telltale huge antennas and stuff. They're stepping up their game. :D
