Good evening to the lady and gentlemen of UCP.

I present the "I'm working on..." thread as a stage for the 'artists' or doodlers of UCP to show what art/doodle is currently underway.

I like to think of myself as a closet doodler or closet artist/visual designer (without the skill) - So here I can bounce my work in progresses off you guys, to see what styles and images work..

This is a ridiculously early work in progress of a bridal gown I have seen, And I am facinated by the base photo, and of the design itself.

I am working on an Architectural Project. (3rd year stuff, awesomeness is contained within)

This is an Artists Residence in Sydney (cnr of George & Pitt). The inspiration was taken from a model I'd constructed around the mixed use nature of the site and the desire to have disparate elements coming together in harmony.

Currently the main focus of my efforts is to finalise the fenestration (where the glass goes), work out the structure (COLUMNS, EVERYWHERE!!!!) and get the final landscape right.

Other than that, profit shall be attained.

Very impressive switters! How long does it take you to draw a car?

switters78
09-29-2009, 06:06 PM
Thanks! The Ferraris will probably end up taking about 25 hours each (give or take a little), which is about average for the pencil illustrations. That Ford Fairlane was about the same. The blue Triumph Italia in my avatar took about 40 hours...color always takes a little longer.

What version of Photoshop are you using? I'd say your piece is coming out nicely even though you're not using Illustrator. It would definitely make your life easier, but it's certainly not necessary.

New version.

The door looks pretty shit, but thats just the rough plan for it..

I'm using photoshop CS4- illustrator would help with the colouring too, but I dont know wether I'll do that - I think it looks quite elegent in white/black.

whiteballz
09-29-2009, 06:35 PM
Decided to fix part of the door and see if I can actually get some decent colour onto the corset, which seems to be working out pretty well at the moment.

Not looking forward to the gown itself though.. Alot of detail there..

Yeah, I think the black & white looks good too. You could always do the whole thing in grayscale so it's got some depth but still has the elegance of black & white. Are you using layers?

CS4 is great. I got the whole suite last fall and it's got so many awesome new features...come to think of it, I started a 360 Modena in Illustrator and haven't worked on it in a while because I've been too busy. Obviously I haven't gotten very far with it...I'll have to give it some love soon :)

whiteballz
09-29-2009, 07:27 PM
yeah, currently there are about 25 layers just for the outlines..

I haven't painted in a long time, probably 4 years or more now. I used to paint acrylics but I'm going to try oils for a change on this one. I'll try pre-made stretched canvas, preferably huge. I photoshopped the picture to give the effect I'm going for. I'll be starting on it this weekend and I'll def take pictures throughout the project.

Started working on it today. Mind you this is my first time ever painting with oils.

I started by putting a grid on the blank canvas to help plot out where stuff should be.
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=325220&stc=1&d=1264891977
I then did a pretty opaque layer of neutral colors and sketched out on top of that.
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=325221&stc=1&d=1264891977
I put some green down where the car and some background will be.
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=325222&stc=1&d=1264891977
I put most of the background in and the foreground. There still is a lot of detail to be put in them. Thats it for now, I have to let it dry over night to put more layers on.
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=325223&stc=1&d=1264891977
The perspective is a little off but that'll be fixed with future layers.

It can be very difficult to get everything to look good, I think you'll see a bunch of mistakes in the few images I've posted here already.. Colours that dont extend out to the lines etc. but honestly I think it adds a type of charm.

But yeah, I've been tooling around in photoshop for a large number of years, Never taken a course and am entirely self taught. My girlfriend who uses photoshop as part of her job is always telling me I'm doing things wrong, but the end result is simmilar and I enjoy doing things my way.
