Reverse image search, for your own computer

I've been using a reverse images search engine lately, which is sort of helpful when you are looking for a specific image but in larger resolution. It may be useful if you want to see where a certain image has been posted, but that I'm not interested in.

It basically search the web for image identical to the one you selected, finding different resolutions, cropped versions and so on, rather than looking for a picture trough its title or data.

Such tool I've been using is TinEye (www.tineye.com), which is also a plugin for all major browsers.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you was aware of a similar program but which could search for images into your HDDs. I've been collecting automotive images for quite a long time, and obviously often found the same image I got last month or year but in a larger resolution. Even more obviously, there has been a moment after which I couldn't check all images, and so double/triple and worse copies of the same images appeared in many folders. If such program would exist, it could still be potential a huge process to go trough, but definitely less time/eye consuming.

Im not quite sure what your on about, but those cookies look amazing! The way my pics are sorted out is by name of the maker, then the model. That way when I find a new image, I save it to the folder. Every once in awhile I have duplicates, but thats easy go get through later.

My archive is sorted basically the same way, with date of introduction also included in the model's folder's name.
My problem is that over the years I stored many duplicates files, mainly because high res version are found at a later date. At the moment I know certain folders are a really mess, like for the Murcielago LP640.
So I was looking for some program which could recognize duplicates based on the image itself rather than on the name itself, so that I don't have to check each folder, image by image.
That's basically what that program does, except it's only for images available on the internet.

Seriously, I found what I was looking for:

Ridiculous name I know.

That's just the best I've found. There are also some freeware attempts but they are pretty lame, unfortunately. I've tested this demo and it works perfectly, doing exactly what I'd need. So, before I get even more tempted in buying a copy of it, I was wondering if any of you knew it before, had some first hand experience to share.

Before you ask, no, torrents didn't help.

Despite a completely lack of interest on this board (jk, ;)), I've done some more digging, and found two pretty good freeware programs.
The first is Duplicate Image Finder (http://www.rmsft.com/dif/landingpage.html), which is extremely slow, takes ages, browsing folders and scanning images, but it's done, checking images is almost a pleasure thanks an user-friendly interface.

The second program is much quicker, VisiPics (http://www.visipics.info/index.php?title=Main_Page). Takes a few minutes to scan a very large directory, provides even larger previews of duplicates found, and has a few nice options as well.
Possibly the winner.

Why don't you try Duplicate Files Deleter? It will do a thorough search of your hard disk and find out the two or more duplicate files of the same file which may be stored at different locations. It will give you a comprehensive list of all those files and you can decide for yourself what you want to do with them. It's easy to use. Hope it will help you.

Yes it certainly helped me, Visipics is easy to use, and it scanned my 9GB car pictures folders pretty fast. And I cleared around 100 duplicate pictures. :D
