View Full Version : Hey Everyone, I still exist

Just figured I would check in and let everyone know what happened to me.

I have had a whirlwind of a last 6 months. In the fall I buried myself in schoolwork and finished up my Master's Thesis. I also supplemented it with another 24 Hours of LeMons race, the west coast season closer at Buttonwillow (awesome track btw).

I graduated in December, and just now moved to Rhode Island. I am here for the rest of this year, and was supposed to move to Japan following that. But things have changed. My wife and I found out last week that we are expecting. Triplets. And if you are a FB friend with me, it is off limits there, still not for full public consumption.

So everything in the world is changing. The G is up for sale, or will be soon, and we are seriously shopping for minivans (ick) for the wife, and an Armada or QX56 for me. I have begged some orders to San Diego in place of Japan, and I'll find out soon, but it is looking pretty certain that we won't be headed overseas.

So no R34 GTR for me, no super awesome sushi, but totally worth it in the long run. And with that, welcome me back to UCP.

I do not like SUVs, but if you are going to have 3 kids, a wife, and a dog, and all the things associated with these creatures, then maybe it makes sense.

It would be nice if your wife could have a van (Mazda 3?), and you some sort of sportish wagon. CTS Wagon, anyone?

C-Max is a good idea, Mazda 5 isn't bad either.

A Mazda 3 isn't a van. It's just a normal family hatchback.

Estate cars are good. Legacy, for instance.

I coulda sworn I hit the 5.

I think vans are better than SUVs. A wagon is better than a van though.

The deal is with three kids though you are going to want a lot of room, so maybe a wagon is outta the picture.

Congrats! :D California is a MUCH better place - cheaper rents and more affordable sushi. :D

Now take the money and invest it towards a Subaru Outback 2.5XT. Too bad they look like ass. I'm sure you can find a good non-outback, old-shape wagon with a 'stick.

lol to all, and thanks to all. 3 names will be a challenge, but we are making some headway. we will get more serious about it as we find out sexes, and as time moves on. she is still relatively early on.

as far as the car situation.... we went to a dealer type car show last weekend to see what would work. Cameron got it mostly right when he mentioned the kids, their stuff, and the dog. also think that there is a triplet stroller, 3 car seats, 3 pack-n-plays, and three of everything you need with a baby. that means not just a 3rd row, but storage behind that third row, and preferebl fold down/up 2nd row to get the kids strapped in in the way back. the 5 was too small, most of the wagons were too small. the minivans were really good, though i hate them, but it looks like we will get one for the wife. i refuse to drive one, so a large SUV makes the most sense, and the Armada was the nicest and best laid out one I looked at. a return to sportscars will happen, but only after they can walk and will fit in a back seat sans car seat. oh, and i will keep my RX-7 for the me time.

and Pieter, as I said in my opening post, I was supposed to go to Japan following my stint at school in RI, but I have now tried to change that to San Diego. And it isn't so much the easy access to Monterey, but also easy access for my and my wife's family to visit and help out. For sure, I will miss this years car week, but maybe the following year I can get away from the grind.

RX stays with me. We currently have a CX-7, the CX-9 is nice, but its actually not the best for what it is. the big SUVs are good, and thats what I will get, but to get what my wife wants in an SUV would be hugely expensive (50k+, i make good money, but not that good), and terrible fuel economy which is something that matters for her.

Sam (Clutch), Sam (Whiteballz) & Sam (IB4R) is genius.

Also, I vote for Felix (after Mr. Wankel) Cosmo (Eunos), Ferry (Porsche), Colin (Chapman), Allen (Key...Geddit?), Monte (Carlo, or Burns...), Cedric (Nissan)...

Girls? Anita (Key...geddit?), Laurel (Nissan), Aurelia (Lancia), Dyane (Citroen), Silvia (Nissan)...

The results are endless! if you wanted your kid to sound like a rapper Shamal Key sounds pretty neat. or Khamsin. But that sounds a bit like a stripper name.

the wife already ruled out Ettore and Enzo, i dont know the names of the Maserati brothers off hand, so that has less of an appeal to it, same with the AM guys. i dont want it to be completely obvious (though i suppose it would be with Enzo), but i appreciate the ideas.

They gave birth in the back of a Kia on the way to the hospital, so they named the poor kid Kia, Kia heard about it and gave them a Kia. Hence the comment on Top Gear: "So why did you name your kid Pagani Zonda With The Optional Ceramic Brake Package?"

One of my cooworkers has an odyssey and we travel in it together quite often. Havent driven it myself, but my only complaint is the rear doors and the automatic opening thing. I hate waiting the 8 seconds it takes for it to "self-open". Wish I could just grab the thing and be done with it.

On a positive note, she is much more of an aggressive driver than I am. Mabey because its due to all the pent up rage that she has due to driving a minivan...

they are rare, unless you get help conceiving. even with the help, the probability of it is about .005, so not exactly common, but 1 in 200 isnt really rare.

ours are fraternal, which is easy to see on the ultrasound. all of them are in separate sacs.

and planet realignment is to say the least.
