The 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe has been revealed some four months after the 2012 650i convertible was shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

And it's pretty much exactly what we expected this 2 + 2 coupe version of the convertible. We're not advertising copywriters so we'll let them take over the inspiration for the new look, "The new interpretation of the traditional BMW Coupe proportions is embellished by lines and surfaces inspired by the movement of waves. Flowing lines and harmonious curves create a feeling of athletic grace, complemented by extremely classic and eye-catching design features which underline the opulent character and elegant appearance of the two-door BMW."

Right. Moving on to the fun stuff.

The 2012 650i coupe comes with the company's twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 producing 400hp between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm and 450 lb-feet of torque between 1,700 and 4,500rpm. Transmission options are a six-speed manual -- which BMW says is popular with North American enthusiasts -- and an 8-speed automatic. 0 - 60 comes up in 4.8 with either one.

The 2012 650i also features electronic shock absorbers and dampers, optional active roll stabilization and optional Integral Active Steering which combines Active Steering (something we've never been totally fond of) with a steerable rear axle. We'll have to drive it to decide...

Other features include automatic high beams, lane departure warning, active blind spot detection, rear and top-view camera, parking assist, a 3D full color heads up display, night vision with pedestrian detection, active cruise control and an optional Bang and Olufsen stereo.

Look for the 2012 6 Series Coupe on sale in the fall here in the States.

It's not bad but it just doesn't excite me. I don't want to use the word "bland" but it just isn't what I'd look for in a coupe of such a nature.

That manual thing, is it only for the US?

My feelings exactly... it's ok.

It would be OK for like half the money. For that price, it's a quite disappointing. The previous model was much better looking, even if it aged quite quickly.

Seeing a couple of new 5 Series on the road, they are nice and all, but it takes a while to say:
- I'm not sure I'd spend 50k € on that car
- oh wait, that 3 series looks weird, like too large...
