Hey guys, I thought this would make a good sticky so people can continue to add to it. If you find a car for sale that is a great deal or just a unique find. Add it on here so someone who is looking to buy a car can see it! Obviously we aren't all looking to buy a car at the same time, so some of us might find cars we wish we could buy, but is just bad timing.

I'll start us off. Here is a beautiful Lotus Green 1991 Esprit! I would love to grab this thing for the steal of $20,000, but unfortunately I'm in Iraq. Someone should definitely go look at this car!

Found this on the way home from school a couple weeks ago.

1983 Toyota Celica Supra
a little over 100,000 miles
$3900

I'd post the link to the website but it's a hole-in-the-wall dealership named Locust Summit Motors, they only have about 10 cars for sale right now but they always have interesting stuff. Right now they've got a Buick Reatta, a Ford Ranchero, and a ragtop RX-7 just to name a few. They also had a Subaru SVX for $2800 but they sold it the day i went in to ask about the Supra.

Those are the stock rims. They even have Lotus stamped on them.

Always liked those MkII Celica Supras. They're fun in GT4 and Forza 3 anyway.

I wasn't questioning whether they were stock or not, i was just saying i didn't think they were until i looked at the pictures.

Auction copy quote: "This car is an unfinished professional restoration."

That's a restoration shop to be avoided at all costs. Pretty sad state for a 931, looks like it's spent more than a couple of years outside.

Pass.

And if the 1994 pic shown was taken by Susan Miller, it must've been with a disposable camera provided by the owner. Absolutely nothing provided by the seller makes this POS attractive.

Old cars are not just a hobby, I drive them every day. Having restored some 2 dozen old cars and currently finishing 3 more (with a particular affinity for Porsches) it's a rational and legitimate judgement. The seller's ad tells the story most enthusiasts will avoid.

The 931 (13,600 built) was a performance improvement of a low-priced model, but was interim to the 937 which is rarer still (400 examples) and much more desirable. The 931 cars have fans, but it's not a large group. Perhaps this one will find a buyer willing to spend beyond it's value, and hopefully won't suffer the fate it's been dealt so far. But there's not much upside in doing so.

FastDriver
05-22-2011, 08:17 AM
Well, to answer your question, if you buy a good quality replica kit, you can get a car that look very close to the real thing, but without the actual upkeep cost of owning an expensive italian super car. Like the thread i posted about the owner of the Ferrari who spent over $60,000 on maintenance over a 3 year period on a 6 year old ferrari.

well as far as Cobras go, the replicas are pretty true to the original, along with the GT40. the italian exotics are the ones who get butchered. However Would you really want to spend a quarter million on a Shelby Cobra or half a million on a GT40? Not me, especially when you can get a modern replica that is practically spot on! And you can drive it every day not worrying about destroying a classic.

besides, I see less repilcas for sale then the real thing for most cars, excluding cobras and GT40s.

I'd much rather a Fiero that looks like a Fiero than a Fiero that looks like a Ferrari.

And yes, I'd much prefer to have half a mill to spend on the real deal. Cars are made to be driven, I'd never buy a classic and then seal it up in a garage. I'd drive it damn carefully, but I'd drive it.

I'm pretty sure you could find the real thing for that much.

I know you think kit cars are having your cake and eating it too, but they really aren't.
Replicas, like the Westfield XI, exist in a bit of a gray area because they attempt to stay true to the mechanical spirit, these do not.

Actually if you buy a $70,000 Diablo you can expect to spend another $70,000on repairs and maintenance. I think a lot of people don't understand how much it costs to maintain these rare cars due to the limited production of the parts used to make these cars. The replicas actually use parts that are easier to get, and you can work on them yourself :)

I'm not saying it is for everyone. If you can afford to maintain a real Lamborghini, then by all means, more power to you! but for those of us who make under $250,000 per year, this is one of the only options. Me personally, would buy a Lotus Esprit due to the low cost in maintaining one. They use a lot of parts from other cars so they aren't so bad comparted to italian supers...

Pretty typical of the tupperware exotic crowd, and if that's not enough to dissuade, the seller's breathlessly inane copy should.

Yeah I know its a TZ, but I couldn't find you a TZ2 yet. What is a good price for a TZ2 if you don't mind me asking? I will try to find a good deal for you :)

somewhere beyond the seven figures....

Even for that sold one you found in Hong Kong? It's got a busted engine and has been thrashed and tracked by an unknown party. Surely it can't be worth that much. :D

What are you gonna do, pull some strings with the factory to get one out of the museum?

The body looks immaculate considering the engine is in such rough shape apparently, maybe it's just out of gas? :D

I found a TZ, do you think it would be impossible for me to find a TZ2 for sale? I will not sleep until I find one!!!!

Because some replicas ( not the pish built on crappy Fieros ) are as good handling as the original. Have the look of the original. So for a fraction of the price of a real one you get the handling and performance.
One example, one of the Stratos replicas the parts are used to upgrade/repair ORIGINAL Stratos where parts aren't available :)

No, I did not call him, I only mentioned that I prefer a TZ2 over a Viper and then you asked me whether I knew one for sale. I never said I was planning to buy one :D:D

oh, well you said that you prefere it "if you don't mind" i thought you wanted me to find one for you... Otherwise why compare a half million dollar car to a $35,000 car? That is like saying Id rather have a Lamborghini Miura than a Corvette... come on man. I'm trying to help people find cars that they are interested in buying.

It was suggested that everybody would drool over the Viper. Not me.

I think Ferrer was being sarcastic about that haha! $35,000 is a good deal for a Viper. I thought someone would like it.

looks to be in pretty rough shape!

that's because it has had the US treatment of its original nose....and 6100 is incredibly cheap. It will probably need the tweaks that are needed to make the engine run reliably, for instance a revised camshaft chain tensioner, that used to be the Achilles heel. Once sorted out, perhaps for another 10-15K, you will have a real classic, that drives like no other car of that period, or just period.
