Since even the one Mercedes has is a replica, how about someone's private copy, complete with replica prototype SL? This was at the Legends of the Autobahn show last month. :cool:

The replica transporter and W194 are for sale. $2MM for the pair. I dont think they could be duplicated for even twice that price. Put a little work to upgrade each vehicle to more accurate standards and you will have $4MM package.

The round Mercedes crest is too high, the headlights are a bit smaller, the front indicators are of the wrong color, it doesn't have the side mirrors, and the doors look different.

But it doesn't detract from the fact that somebody actually MADE a replica! There's no way in hell it was easy or cheap... :eek:

No they are not mine. I know the owner and the upgrades for me would be as mentioned above about the crest; it needs 300S 260mm headlights, correct rearview mirror, door shape is wrong, and the grill is a little small. I would put a real Gullwing engine in it and reconfigure the dashboard. The W194 just needs to be detailed with hood and trunk lid lightning holes, correct hood and trunk latches and put the correct cylinder head on, correct radiator, lose the A/C and the disc brakes and configure the car to be either one of the serial numbered cars that is missing.

You guys missed my attempt to be droll... :rolleyes:

The grille, lights, etc. are definately off... but as a whole the effect is the same on most people, amazement. Some of my Porsche buddies that have seen plenty of replicas thought they were real until I pointed out all the misses. So taken with all the eye-candy, they completely missed the AC compressor! FWIW, if I could stroke a check to correct those shortcomings (or better yet, have ranchomerced build it right)... ;)

Sorry to dig this one up...but I love this "truck". 100mph is highly impressive for its period - that was sportscar territory back then. The attention to detail is wonderful, and I'll be darned if it's not even a good looking rig as well.

jcp, pretty sure CMC still has the amazingly detailed 1:18 model available.
I've got one in my shop display cabinet, complete with W196 F1 car.

Sometimes I put the 300SL proto on the back. :cool:
