View Full Version : What's your Cylinder Index?

jcp123

Just add up all of the internal combustion cylinders in your possession (cars, power equipment, etc.).

Mine's easy since I don't have my own compressor, lawnmower, etc.

Mustang = 8
Harley = 2
Kia = 4
Toyota = 4
-----------------
= 18 cylinders for me!

Remember that he who dies with the most cylinders wins :p

Not mine, but something I'm partially responsible for.

38 + 2 or 6 ? for the rotary :)

6 : A610 ( V6 Turbo woot, woot :) )
4 : A40

I was going to assume 12, but then I remembered the TL is a straight 5. Man that's an oddball car, I don't think Honda ever made another straight 5.

Sounds great, but I'd be much happier if those 10 cylinders belonged to a Carrera GT instead :\

That is really nutty. I never knew that Honda made an I5. I had to look that up because I didn't know if I could believe it. Is that DOHC with VTEC? That could make for some pretty insane(ly expensive) engine swaps. Sounds like the kind of thing Top Secret would do.

As for me, I just got out on my own feet and am still at zero cylinders. Don't even have a bike right now but at least I am saving lots of money :p

Don't worry, even though I listed three cars, I don't drive any of them in any regular basis. I am car-less just like you.

My niece in Canada had (has?) an Acura Vigor, which had an I5...

Yes, the Vigor was before the TL. It's odd, Honda never made another I5 after the 2.5 TL. A good reason why they stopped making them was because the I5 is mounted longitudinally in the car, another odd thing to do. Honda engines are usually transverse mounted, so packaging must be a big reason why they stopped.

I don't know how much power it makes, but I do agree it's relatively torquey and it pulls very well once you're off.

Apparently not. It's a SOHC engine.

Lets see,

335d - Straight 6
Audi Q5, 09' was a V6 but thats recently been upgraded for a turbo 4
Jetta is a 4 bangin diesel
Ducati Monster is a L twin

so that puts me at 16 cylinders and 7.8 liters of displacement.
702 horsepower
952 ftlbs of torque

no bad at all!

Do turbo's still get a 1.5 liter displacement multiplication? or diesels?

Damn, I am falling behind in the rankings LOL! I went from bronze medal to 5th place

My understanding is that it has to be an internal combustion piston - your compressor piston wouldn't count, but if it's run by an internal combustion motor, the cylinder(s) on the motor count!

Since you put up some other metrics...

Total displacement: 9,3l
Average # of cylinders: 4,5 cyl/vehicle
Average displacement: 2,33l/vehicle
Total # of camshafts: 9
Total # of valves: 52

Since I can only make an educated guess at the current HP of two of the vehicles and a less educated guess at the tq on them, I won't try to touch that one :)

Aw HELL no. Realizing how many ICEs I have to maintain was quite enough, thanks. No Displacement/HP/Torque/Valves/Cams/Cranks
or fuel consumption calcs from me. ;)

For awhile, I jokingly ranked my quality of life index by counting toilets maintained, 'cause the damn things are a constant problem in commercial property. At one point we had a total of 26... getting down to 14 was a relief! :p

7 camshafts for 58 valves.
8 exhuast tips for 4 vehicles
4 turbo chargers
54.1 gallons of fuel
20.1 quarts of oil
3920mm of tire width (including winter tires)

revised my math with proper specs:
703 horsepower average of 44 per cylinder, 90 horses a liter
977 ftlbs of torque. average of 61 per cylidner, 125 ftlbs a liter.

all that at a brand new price of $135,000 USD MSRP. almost $8,500 a cylinder, $192 a horsepower, $138 a ftlbs of torque & $17,307 a liter.

Ok back to work.

Nope. I beat you to it :) This is going to be a long senseless post, but hell.. :D

166 ft/lb = 224.81 Nm in the internationally agreed unit system

That gives a ratio of Nm to hp of 1.2701 : 1

Now my Puma, on the last dyno-run had 142.1 hp and 184.6 Nm.

Which gives a ratio of 1.299 : 1

I win :D

True however a diesel has offcourse very different characteristics, as you know all too well. It doesn't matter anyway, statistics are all just that, numbers. The driveability is what really matters on the road anyway.
