At the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, one of the main themes will be the 30th anniversary of the legendary Group C class, while last year Jaguar was the featured marque. Combining these two celebrations, we have today taken a very close look at the Jaguar XJR-12. This was the ultimate version of the V12-powered sports racers developed for Jaguar by TWR in the late 1980s. While the team campaigned the latest V6 turbo engined machine in sprint races, the XJR-12 was built specifically for the endurance rounds on the calendar. With victories in the 1990 editions of the Daytona 24 Hours and 24 Hours of Le Mans, this proved to be a highly successful strategy. Featured in our 42-shot gallery are five different examples, including the Le Mans winning chassis. They are pictured at various venues including Le Mans and of course also at Goodwood. This year we once again expect at least one of these successful Group C racers to star.
A Jaguar set to make its world debut on the famous Goodwood hill-climb is the F-Type although only in development prototype form. Goodwood is also a special venue for McLaren, for various reasons, and this weekend the 'enhanced' MP4-12C will make its debut in the hands of Jenson Button, while his hero Alain Prost is set to make his Festival of Speed debut behind the wheel of one of 'his' old McLaren Formula 1 racers. One of the highlights of the 'First Glance' class is due to be the Mazda MX-5 GT Concept. Inspired by the GT4-specification competition variant, this road going machine is equipped with a 205 bhp engine and sharper suspension.
If you want to make it out to Goodwood, you have to act quickly as only tickets for Sunday are still available on the Goodwood website. For those of you unable to attend in person, our full report due early next week will provide a front-row seat.
