The first Bugatti is a 1938 type 57SC (SC = sports compressor - added the supercharger to boost the straight 8 engine from 160 to 200bhp)Atlantic ... there were three of these supercharged versions ever made. Ralph Lauren has one that he paid a cool $8 million for and Peter Williamson's Atlantic that won the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours is probably worth arrround $10-20 million i am not sure of the whereabouts or existence of the third car. Many replicas have also been created (many in the 80's) and can be sold for up to $1 million dollars. It had a 4 speed manual and was RWD. The reason for the large crease going down the center of the car and along the center of the fenders is because the car was designed to be built from a magnesium alloy called Elektron which proved very hard to weld. It weighed just 950kg. (note: i couldnt find a good pic but it has six exhaust pipes!) also the pic with two atlantics in it(one black one light blue) is ralph laurens(black) and peter williamsons (blue) cars next to each other.
The second is a 1939 type 57C built for the Shah of Iran. dont really kno nething about this car however...
hope u like :D

beautiful car - Ettore Bugatti (in my opinion) made the most asthetically pleasing cars ever to drive

I think Jean was the better designer myself. :)

I agree.

Since the 1960's there have been very few great car designs. :(

I agree.

I sometimes wonder what cars that are available now will be cherished in the future? Sadly enough, not many I'm affraid.

Those Bugatti's on the other hand, pure art...

Cheers,

Actually Jay's car is a KOUX replica, built by Danish Bugatti specialist Eric Koux, built on original type 57SC chassis, he built a bunch of them, one was for sale for a longtime at a Dutch dealership. The VW Bugatti museum also has a KOUx replica. An actual Atlantic allegedly surfaced recently, after years of being hidden by its owner. It was supposed to have been at Pebble Beach a couple of years ago. The Death of Dr. Williamson and the eventual sale of his ATLANTIC set the selling price for ATLantics. So maybe this car will finally make its public debut.

As far as I know, Jay Leno's was built in England by Crailville. Eric Koux made many of them, though. Probably as many as 15. He started in Glassfibre, but the later ones were all made the traditional way; wooden structure and aluminium skin.

Williamson's Atlantic has now been sold for about 30 million dollars, an all-time max. (a simple piece of cloth, with some stains of paint on it is worth over 100 million, just beacuse some guy called Picaso put the paint on - I'd rather have an automobile that I can drive in!)

The Atlantic will be shown in the Peter Mullin museum in Oxnard.
