This weekend is the 5th round of the series, and so far it looks like we're in for a different round winner again, after Greg Murphy announced he would be swapping from his 2004 car, back to his Bathurst winning 2003 car. Another milestone this weekend is the guy that once hit the safety car, Russel Ingall, will be celebrating his 100th start to a round this weekend.

On another note though, Mark Skaife is still holding a grudge against Marcos Ambrose after the manouvre last round in Darwin where Skaife was leading into the final turn on the last lap of the first race and went off track after Ambrose tried to pass on the inside of him. Whilst the stuards have cleared Ambrose and deemed it a racing incident, Skaife isnt letting go, and warning Ambrose to look over his shoulder, as the 2002 champion is well out of championship contention this year and in a much better position for tactics like what he thought went on last round.

Murphs current car hit a brick wall in development....but i never saw this one comming....
Russle Ingall is also the guy who swerved at skaife....whuile he was on foot :D
Mark Skaife is a shawllow biggot...he should look at some of his own actions....

Some of the things Skaife's been saying lately, in contrast to what others are saying and even whats being proven by the stuards, ive really just got to laugh at. Like now, what hes saying about the tactics Ambrose used last round, considering Skaife was the one who went wide around the corner, then it was his doing that sent him off after he tried to defend when it was too late. Ambrose had the speed on the weekend no doubt to challenge Skaife, the final race on the same corner remember he got alongside Steven Richards after coming from a bad racing line and was able to nail it until the end and finish a whisker infront of him to claim 2nd for the final race. It will be interesting though next time both Ambrose and Skaife are on V8 Superstars

Ambrose was using this session to gather data for the team on tyre wear with old tyres, as the team believes that even with the resurfacing tyre wear will be a crucial factor. Ingall was also running a development suspension setup.

Skaife with a win finally

well its something that hes been really desperate for, but it doesnt change my opinion of him. ellery was giving him a good run today in the final race and those comments he made earlier this week about Ambrose were really stupid

Falcon500

Well the dust has settled and jason bright with his first round win in a long time...this all helped by rick kelly being the cork in the bottlewhile bright manged to rocket away....but that said hiks car was a genuine missile this race all the power to him....I can no longer say he cant win unless hes in ford :D
Abrose came second despite the fact he was on level points with kelly his previous round wins i guess gave him the silver trophy....he ran a good race and i was plesently suprised by this result...he also regained the chmapionship from richards with this result.....
And rick kelly who ran some good races other then the last one when he was slower and had people queaing up behind him...but thats raceing....
Murphs Tyres seemed to go off fairly eearly on and then towards the end you could see it sliding around....
Johnson had a few good runs this race and manged to break the top 10 for the round...Ellery was also someone who was alining who manged to get a good setup for the race....
Suprise Steven Richards had an off which cost him the chamiponship lead aqnd he seemd to lack some poke in the 2nd race....
Craig Baird losthis top 10 in the championship and because of a shunt missed the 2nd and 3rd race.....
Hard luck also to Bargs and the entier FPV team...bargs for his part in the shunt with craig baird and the fpr team for several engine relatedproblemsduring the race....also hard luck for skaife and dale Brede for speeding in pit lane....

Interesting round. Felt a little sorry for Steve Richards. Went off through no fault of his own. Can't blame either Skaife or Bright either. Racing incident - 3 cars into 1 doesn't go...
Bright is looking pretty good a this stage in the championship. Ambrose will still be hard to beat though.

fpv_gtho
06-13-2004, 05:29 AM
i think this could be the start of the decline for Richard's championship hopes. Ambrose seems to be well in it till the end, possibly with Rick Kelly and Jason Bright challenging him at the end.

And Falc, remember Bright won the round at Pukekohe as well

Falcon500
06-13-2004, 05:53 AM
Well if ambrose can coast around at 4thfor the rest of the championship hes unlikly to be dethroned....btut he most unlikly think Ambrose settling for that....He loves to race not to cast around like richo(the accumulater) and he enjoys giveing the fans something too look at!
Did he win the whole roundor just one race...i cant rember?

fpv_gtho
06-13-2004, 05:58 AM
Bright won 2 of the races im sure of, which gave him the round win. I cant remember who won the other race though.

Well Ambrose is 50 points ahead of Rick Kelly and 52 ahead of Richards. He definately is someone who likes to draw attention, not always to himself, but give the fans something to go wild at. It may just be the points system making Richards play conservatively, or he may know his limits and not be pushing himself

Falcon500
06-13-2004, 06:06 AM
I think its a mixof both thos charicteristics....if your doing similar lap times to the guy in front of you and it would be a hard...dangerous pass...then he doesnt bother...and if the guy behind him is hounding him every corner let him go....but like wise he wont go too far back...he views its only a matter of 2 points per posi...i wonder if his father wouls be dissapointed his sons not trying as hard as he could?

fpv_gtho
06-13-2004, 06:15 AM
well Richards has speed, but i think Bright and Ambrose are consistently faster than him, and if theyre having a good weekend, both Kmart cars are ahead as well. that said i dont think if Richards was behind Skaife, he'd take a risky opening, whilst Ambrose proved he'll go for whatevers available :p

As for Jim's opinion, i think hes just proud of his 2 Bathurst wins nevertheless and glad to be racing with him this year. hes probably tried to tell him he pussy foots around a bit but Steven has to make the decisions himself ultimtely

Falcon500
06-13-2004, 06:47 AM
I ment at his sones incredibly layed back approach to raceing...while smart whats the fun iin it...if more take his attitude thatll kill the race....
As has been said enough time drivers need rewards...

Jim was a racer but im not the biggest fan of his son. I can't see rick kelly getting the championship, Bright needs to come from a bit back but he should be the threat to ambo cause he seems to be the only holden that can get it running good almost every race very consistent and fast. Murhy is up and down. it's hard to see him up there at the end unless he does a run like last year

I've finally got my photos sorted and uploaded from the weekend... so here's the details....

http://www.highoctanephotos.com/v8supercars

and a few teasers... :-)

be warned there's about 1800 photos... from around 1pm Friday with the old tyre practice session, right through to the final race of the weekend, the third race of the Lotus Elise one make round.... which, in my opinion, had the best battle of the weekend... between Grant Johnson and Tony Ricciardello....

There wasn't that much carnage in the main category over the weekend... Tho the WPS guys had trouble keeping this one on the go-jacks...

The support categories had a few more 'racing incidents', in this case, the Lotus Elise challenge... A category which also produced, as I mentioned earlier, what I still consider the best race of the weekend.. (which was also the last race of the weekend... have a look at the last couple of pages in the album for those photos)

If your running Norton Internet Security, one of it's privacy settings blocks the sending of http_referrer information.... which you can set to permit that sending... it doesnt send anything really worth hiding... however, i use that to make sure my photos are being hotlinked somewhere i don't know about...

if thats not it... then there's another possibility... the URL for this page i've added to the hotlinking permissions is http://www.ultimatecarpage.com ... if your browsers showing something else, let me know and i'll add that as well...

Watching it now in the UK - hurrah !! :)

Mind you 1:30 am on Channel5, but looks great. I love the interior remote controlled cameras on Aussie racing :)

But it needs some different cars.
2 typoes and just lots of different paint jobs doesn't make for much difference !!

well seeing 2 different models just battle it out can get boring, but its far from being 2 different performance levels. Just look at 888, FPR and SBR, the 3 bigest budget Ford teams and PWR, Kmart Racing and HRT the 3 biggest budget Holden teams. They're all on a different performancce level to each other with some having stronger straight line speed, some stronger mid corner speed, others better braking and some with slightly nimbler handling. Hopefully the proposed rule changes are thrown out the window and other methods of cost cutting brought in.

I watched it as well.
It was spectacular when everyone pitted at the same time.

I did ponder about whether there should be more manufacturers involved.
I think that it is incredible how the Commadore and Falcon manage to be all but equal in performance.

If a new manufacturer got involved, they would either underperform, and would just be filling spaces at the back of the grid, or there is the threat that they could completely dominate, and ruin the racing.

I think that it is fine as it is now, great racing from start to finish.

Well it happened and now the rules are V8 RWD so it pretty much can't again.

Ford RS500 DOMINATED the series and I think it upset all the Aussies that a European car was sweeping the boards, so if it doesn't meet Oz approval it don't get in. Ford and Holden seem to have a political stranglehold the equal of Ducati in WSB and Ferrari in F1 :)

the current V8 RWD formula isnt going to be around forever. its been in place sincce 1993 after Group A was dropped, but AVESCO, the actual governing body i think was made in about 1998. Tony Cochrane, the chairman, has been trying all sorts of things with the category, the latest being moving the series overseas with the proposed China round this year, that ended up being postponed till JIne next year.

The current cars, whilst the top 20 are only seperated by 1.5 seconds in the time sheets, they can be at times seperated by several metres on track. Theres not alot to play with for interpretation of the rules, but alot of different performance levels are found.

No the people wenrt happy about euro trash..BECAUSE...under the group A rules the local product didnt have any good hamoliglated peices and therefore no one botherd....I actually like our GT-P class better but it need more a of a big banger (expensiver performance cars...EG HSV,FPV,350Z) section all the way back to grocery getters like the way it used to be...Group A had the right idea...but far too focused on hamoliglation...big Breaksont eh road going cars....GIANT breaks on the race car for example...Group C had free range on some parts and stock items in others...best class we ever had but someparts did need changeing....
In comparison t6he current ATCC has no charictor compared to the older races (even F*cking group A) they where modifiedroad going versions not a bunch of road going pannelsslapped onto a race car...
