I certainly was not around when Jack Brabham was racing, but the name definitely resonates with me with the same significance as Ayrton Senna.

He passed today.

Sir Jack Brabham, three-time Formula One world drivers champion and icon of world motorsport, dies aged 88 - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-19/jack-brabham-dies/5461332)

RIP.
He won the World Championship in his own car, which speaks not only to his skill as a driver, but to his intelligence and leadership. He will be sorely missed.

I certainly was not around when Jack Brabham was racing...

As a very small child I can remember my dad taking us to Mount Druit (outer western Sydney in those days, all covered in suburbia these days) and watching Jack Brabham race both open wheelers and sedans around what was not much more than a bush paddock.

He has certaily left a great legacy for Australian motor sport and opened the way for many Australian motor racers since.

Sad news indeed! Here he is during better days, back in 2006:

The last line of Sir Jack Brabham's 2004 biography:
I want to be a man who dies without an enemy in the world; I aim to outlive the bastards

Let's hope that he did.
