nice, what is he Itaparaty? (reg number ALU 1967) sounds brazilian, but what is it? There must be weird cars out there, I remember visiting Argentina about 8 years ago, and there were quite a number of cars that I never saw before, like the various Torino's. Can you give more on the Brazilian cars? Puma's?

yes I thought that I might hit a sensitive issue when I wrote that down, but point is that I have never been to Brasil (if a stopover at Sao Paulo Airport does not count) and I did spent some time in your neighbouring country.

I' ll be in Dakar in august, so I will be on the lookout. I think however that you might be able to find these things much easier where you live. (I was there last year for a week, Bucharest and Constanza)

I wonder if somebody from Brazil can tell me who's the # 1 ever icon in car racing history...? Or who was Ayrton's lifetime idol and friend...? Or a brazilian car constructor as famous as De Tomaso or currently selling as much super sport cars as Mr. Pagani ? Anyways....no thread war intended, just a reminder that this is a forum that makes people get closer in its passion about cars rather than a place to let people know about you bias.

In 1955, Willys produced their last car in the United States, and parent Kaiser-Jeep Corporation concentrated production on their Jeep line of vehicles. The manufacturing equipment was sent to Brazil and in 1960, the first vehicles from Aero-Willys do Brasil left the assembly lines.

In 1966, the luxurious Itamaraty was launched alongside the Aero-Willys 2600, Renault Dauphine and Jeep Trucks.

In 1968, control of the company passed to Ford, who dropped the Itamaraty Executivo, because it was thought to be to competitive with the Brazilian-made Ford Galaxie 500.

In 1972, the last Aero and Itamaraty models were sold, to make room for the launch of the 1973 Ford Maverick.

At the roughly the same time, Simca do Brasil produced and sold the Simca Chambord from 1960 to 1966 and then the restyled Simca (and Chrysler, who took control in this time) Regent, Esplanada and GTX, all of which were replaced by the Brazilian-made Dodge Dart in 1969.
