Automotive Museums in Your Area

This is sort of a weird request, but after seeing the thread about the Peterson Museum on the West coast reopening, I really want to go... but it's not like I have the money to swing by California one weekend to see it. I'm in the New York area, and I'm having a hard time coming up with good automotive museums in my neck of the woods. The closest one I can think of is the Simeone collection in Philadelphia, which is close, but still a trek.

So if anyone can recommend automotive museums in the Northeast seaboard, that'd be great.

And if you're not in the US, feel free to recommend museums in your area too.

Being from the old continent all the ones I've been to are... from there.

I've been to the Schlumpf Collection in Mulhouse, the Le Mans museum... in Le Mans and Audi's, Daimler's, BMW's and Porsche's in Germany.

Of the automakers museums, Porsche's was the worst, small and cramped. But since I was there it's been completely transformed and enlarged apparently. All the others were fine.

Of the French museums I preferred the Schlumpf Collection with special mention for their Bugatti display.

Sorry for not being able to help with East Coast US car museums!

I'd love to go to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. Actually, there's a lot of places I'd like to go to in Europe just as a tourist first, not only as an automotive enthusiast.

Well, going through Youtube and all, I found another East coast museum.

Mostly found out about it through Youtube, they have some really old and new Hondas there, in addition to other stuff. I was a little annoyed he skipped over the Toyota Sports 800, but he does only do Honda coverage...

Well, I finally went to the Simeone Foundation in Philadelphia.This is a really nice museum, but I was a little rushed. My mother was with me, so I really couldn't stick around for way too long. Also, although it's nice to get free range over the cars, there really weren't much staff around you can ask questions about for the cars. There was this one staff member who was really helpful, but that's because I was oogling over a Mack truck that was probably built in the 1920's that wasn't in the exhibit, I spotted it out back and decided to take a look at it myself. Too bad the staff member was a heavy smoker, I would have taken more photos.

It's a fairly USDM oriented museum, although there's a lot of British cars too. There are a few German cars and only 1 Japanese car, a Nissan 300ZX.

It's also a lot of fun to see the cars parked in the parking lot, when you attract car nuts, it's interesting to see what they bring in. There was a Peugeot 504 coupe in the lot.

The 4th post is a MG of sorts (Midget maybe?).

And... the last 2 in this post I have no idea.

I grew up about an hour from the Blackhawk in Northern California.

Around here, the closest thing to an auto museum is Dos Locos Gringos. It's a pick-n-pull yard.

Near downtown though there is a very old filling station (I'd say 1920s vintage at the latest?). It looks abandoned at first until you notice the blackout windows and a Porsche logo on one of the doors. I'd love to know what's in there, even if I'm not much of a Porsche guy. That kinda setup just begs off-the-charts curiosity.

We do have Motor Museum of WA at Whiteman but the famous one in WA is Ridley's Motor Museum at Holden Close. Been at Ridley's once and it's a historic place for car enthusiast.

If you are in the vicinity of The Hague (the Netherlands) then the Louwman Museum is absolute must for all car fanatics.
It's the oldest private collection in the world, and houses a vast array of cars and so much more.

Thanks, I'll have to go there at some point as part of a trip to Europe. Europe would be crazy for me, I'd probably want to be in Stuttgart, Germany for Porsche.

Japan is likely another trip for me, and if I do go to Hiroshima I'd like to pop by the Mazda Museum there, which has a nice Google street view.

Old thread, however, if you do decide to swing out to southern California, in the north part of the San Fernando Valley is the Nethercutt Museums which have incredible collections of early 1900's cars as well as some post war cars. The cars are meticulously maintained, and the museums are FREE! Their website is quite informative should you want more information.

In Turin/Italy the Museum of Auto and the small Fiat Museum ( free entrance ,open on Sunday only) in the former manufacturing plant nearby the Parco Valentino
