Depends on the circumstances. If someone were to offer me any ten cars, I would probably go picking 10 supercars like the rest of you, but If perhaps I were a billionaire or something and I had to pick 10 cars for my garage I'd go for a far better range than that.

Jaguar E type: Beauty embodied on wheels.

Seat Leon Cupra R: Something to go down to the shops in. Who really wants the hassle of parking a supercar up everytime you wanna get some bread?

1964 Austin Mini Cooper S: The original. Nuff said.

Noble M12 M400: Track toy.

Bentley Continental GT: For when I want to go to the shop to get some bread, in this case a baguette... from France.

Range Rover: I think it's actually mandatory to have one of these if you're wedged.

Ferrari 288 GTO: Magnificent.

Original Mini Cooper with a 190bhp VTEC engine conversion: Cos they're just crazy :)

Jaguar XJ13: Rare as the proverbial rocking horse excrement. The pinnacle of the true Jaguar marque.

Pagani Zonda: Does this one really need justifying? No.

There's a few more I'd have to sit and think about, but I think that sums me up rather nicely. I'd perhaps think about an Ultima GTR in place of the Noble, a Cayenne Turbo in place of the Range Rover and something a bit bigger than a Seat Leon for running errands, maybe something with a German V8 Diesel so I don't have to worry about trips between petrol stations.

The title of the thread was: What 10 cars do you want in your garage. So I decided that I needed at least one to actually drive. :)

SilverArrowZ

lol.. technically you are right. never thought of it :)

if it's me, i'll get cars that can be modified (and gain street credits) to put in my garage. Local car theft incident is so common, but only happens to stock car. Cars with reputation won't get stolen, probably it is easy to notice (this goes the same with riceboy's car).

If i could afford all those cars, I would certainly be able to pay for a 24 hours custodian.

Mine's a titch more realistic, although If I weren't limited by money or... museums or anything like that:

Volkswagen Corrado SLC - Wonderful little car. More or less for sentimental reasons, I have memories of this bad boy as a child.

my Toyota MR2 mk1 - although I'd have mine all hotted up with a new supercharged motor, suspension and brake kits, a new exhaust, lighter-wieght body panels all over, re-upholstered interior, new sub woofer under the seat...

tie: A Lotus Elise (North American version) or a Caterham Seven. the perfect track weapon.

Lancia Stratos - Need I say more?

Porsche... um, any porsche. It's so hard to choose, they all kick ass.

Ferrari 288 GTO - damn they're fine.

Audi S4 - the current version with the V8. the RS6 is an option, I suppose... but I love the way the S4 looks, plus it's shorter. uber Sedan in every sense of the word.

tie: either a 67 Ford/Shelby Mustang GT500 fastback, or a 71' Boss Mustang 427. I'd have them hotted up with new suspension, brake, and engine mods, plus a pumpin stereo. although no huge bloody mass of woofers.

A GMC truck. something to haul parts around in, go fishing, go off roading...

a bitchin Volkswagen Westfalia camper van. perhaps a late- 80's one, with Syncro. I'd drop in a Porsche 911 motor in it, and hook up a TV w/Gamecube. Then I can go laugh at the ricers! yep, I show up to their little meets, kick out my 'cube and laugh at their Playstations rotting away under thier seats, and then toast them with Porsche power. in a god-damned van! how does that not rule?

Hey now!! I object! :p I love my bicycle...she needs to get kustomized. I was thinking matte black primer with red and white pinstriping and red powdercoated wheels, or brown and coral with stock wheels. Either way, there would also be a kustom saddle and ape hanger bars (as well as some other detail crap) involved...

Probably Turbo for everyday easy to drive and refined but lots of power and flexibility.
The Clio for the town and fuel consumption as it would still be fun when you clear the traffic and get onto a B road and still does 30mpg ish.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Here's mine, a team Banesto Pinarello. Like the one Miquel Indurain rode, sort of just with the less expensive campagnolo. The other bike lives in the garage not this one.

And jcp, yes it's a classic with steel (cromoly) frame :)

It actually looks like a 62 (A friend of mine, 6.6, bougt a Pinarello 62, six or seven years ago, which looks similar, now it's all Opera and the like). What Campagnolo package do you have?
I got newly delivered 56 Aluminium frame with carbon rear fork, fitted with a Campagnolo Chorus Triple set. (Haven't used it much since travelling)

I think that steel pinarellos look big for their size because of the very thin tubing. The toptube in mine is a little more than an inch in diameter. It's the Campy Mirage, I think it was one up from the cheapest ergo-set. Basically, I wanted this frame and was going to upgrade later. However, the Mirage has held up well, going on 9 years now! Luckily, I've only dropped the bike once when I couldn't get out of the pedals. :o

Campy Chorus, wow those pieces are beautiful and light, also the triples are nice. I have 52/39 with a 8-speed cassette, upgrading to a triple sounds good for the climbs. :)

Ah, yes, I used to have the Mirage on my previous bike, (before the crashed one), but unfortunately I could not get a suitable cassette for serious climbing, 39x23 was the standard fitting. I did a mountain tour in Italy in 2002 and decided it was time to reward myself with a real bike. Pedal problems we all have I had guess, matter a getting used to it.

I couldn't imagine racing/competing even a steep hilly much less mountainous route with 39X23, that's what I have. You must have very durable knees. :) I've mostly just enjoyed weekend rides.

That Jan Janssen frame was pretty badly bent was that a sprint fall?

39x23 was the maximum I could get on the Mirage as well. That's why I changed bikes.

The fall was my own bloody mistake, I was watching the cranks when I lost direction slightly, and ran onto a row of small triangular pieces of concrete, that our road authorities put in narrow corners to prevent cars from cutting off the road and destroying the grassy sidewalk. Whe I looked up I noted that i was running strait into them but then it was already too late. Given the circumstances damage to myself was minor, just a pretty sour shoulder which has not yet fully recovered three months later.

I wish I'd put a bike in the garage with this 'top 10' as well. I remember reading somewhere that the bicycle is the most efficient machine ever devised. If you were to convert the energy in one gallon of gasoline to calories, then it was estimated that the bicycle gives 3,000 miles to the gallon. While producing zero emissions, well almost zero emissions.:)

No in one of the series he had a black Jaguar with extra wide tyres. That is the I really love.

And this is the one

http://www.personal.u-net.com/~carnfort/NewAvengers/images/bigcat.jpg

It is a Jaguar XJ6 Coupé called Big Cat

Actually built for racing, this 5.3-litre V12 car, resplendent in British Racing Green, was loaned to the production team by BL, as part of their publicity drive. And it certainly looks the part!

However the huge tyres (which had to be specially imported from the US) made it difficult to steer and Pat found it a pain to drive. The stunt crew also battled with it – think back to the car park scene in ‘Last of the Cybernauts’!
As for Jags in general, well the usual 70’s problems of rust and unreliability meant pretty low used prices. However in 1986 Rover Group (the new name for BL) decided to sell off Jaguar to Ford US who quickly vanquished all the problems.... good old Ford!

Thanks, it looks like the 5.3 V12 that they were never able to get reliable, although it was very fast. Only the subsequent XJS (also by TWR) realised the full potential of the V12.

On a side note, recent developments at Coventry show that Jaguar's problems are far from over. A strategic mistake has been the omission of a diesel engine at the introduction time of the X-series. Now that it is finally there, the X is old stuff.

Off course you're right, but, just look it from the point of view from a young boy. The avengers were very cool and John Steed was the kind of man I wanted to be, Stylisch, a kind of Knight in modern times, and so on and he rode this incrededible warhorse. And on telly you see only the good part of it. So I fell in love with the looks of the car. Never knowing the problems. And if I can buy one onces, I don't care about the problems, I will ride it for the fun of having it.

I think the Skyline is a well built car, it is also very rare, I am a muscle car fan too, but sometimes driveabilty improvements are nice.

meh, skylines performance isnt exactly what youd expect for that much money, id probably stick with a carrera 911 for driveability.

84tecate

I agree with that, but i like to call it a "potential car" it does have a lot of potential to be an extremely fast and powerful car.

CdocZ

so does a viper, vette and mustang. then again, driveability is not what those 3 are known for

02-08-2005, 07:58 PM
Its hard to choose just ten cars, I have a lot of mustang models and a vette, although they are old, I just typed in the top ten that came to mind. Mustangs can be made into a very good handling car, the aftermarket parts for them are endless.

How did this turn into a bike thread? Henk, I blame you. :)
Speaking of bikes, I once had my brother time how fast I could pedal my 10-speed bike in a standing start 1/4 mile.
He timed me at 33 seconds @ around 35 mph (at my fastest).

Also, another off-topic piece of trivia:
The fastest 1/4 mile for a horse is 20.8 seconds. So if anyone owns a car that does the 1/4 in 20.9 sec. or longer, you should know that the fastest horse will beat you in drag race!

(Note- the horse 1/4 mile time may been updated; I read it in a book of world records.)

updating list. Most of them remain the same, but still...

1. Volkswagen Corrado SLC - My normal, daily driver.
2. Ferrari 288 GTO - beloved Testerossa.
3. Lancia Stratos - how often do you see one of those driving down a Canadian city street?
4. Mitsubishi Lancer EVO MR - rally champ, and it'll eat ricers... come to think of it, so will almost everything else on this list :D
5. Toyota Tacoma of some kind. Gotta haul stuff.
6. Volkswagen Beetle - remade into a dune buggy :D
7. Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, or 930 Turbo (Don't care which)
8. Mclaren F1 - uber fast, ultra rare and ultimate in every way.
9. Audi S4 - like the mitsu, only up-class.
10. Caterham Seven - I don't like women with Anorexia, but I do like cars with anorexia!

Now, If I were to add a few more cars, they would probably be:

11. A bloody great GMC Savanna. Gotta haul MORE stuff.
12. Alpine A110 - Same reasons as the stratos.
13. Porsche Carrera GT - Because I *heart* Porsche.
14. Caddilac Eldorado - one made in the late 70's. There's something infinitely hilarious about bombing around in a giant tank.
15. Lotus Elise - Same reason as the Caterham, only more so.
16. Volkswagen Westfalia. Gotta love them camper vans.
17. Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione - HAWT!
18. Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe - a C2, back when they were totally manly and badass
19. My Trusty 'ol Toyota MR2 - Heavily modded of course. Another daily driver.
20. Porsche 917K race car. - ph33r me!
21. BMW M1 - So awesome I could just puke.
22. Mazda RX-7, one of the first generation cars. I'd drop in a renesis :D
23. Ferrari F430 - with Standard transmission. Screw paddle shifters.
24. Bugatti Royalle - So damned far fetched, but come on, wouldn't it rule to have one of those??
25. Mini Cooper. An old school one, just something to mess around in.
26. Jaguar XJ-13 - see Bugatti Royalle
27. TVR V8 S - A V8 to make the wind make my normally short hair shoot straight back... and stay there.
28. Porsche Boxter S - Once again: I *heart* Porsches.
29. Toyota Celica All-trac turbo - from 1994. There's just something awesome about them.
30. BMW Isetta - just for some laffs!

Well, that's better. If I had enough money to own a ton of cars, I wouldn't limit myself to 10 :p

1970 Buick GSX

GREAT LIST!!!
I've got road tests for most of those cars.
Drag Racing magazine (June, 1969) tested a factory '69 440 Dart. With 3-speed auto trans and 3.55 gears it ran 12.70 sec @ 112 mph in the 1/4 mile.

Motor Trend tested a '70 Boss 429 Mustang with 4.56 gears and put on 7" slicks and got a 12.3 @ 112 1/4 mile.

And I really like the Chrysler 300-C... (see photo below)... great styling, fins, and aggressive front end, a big 392-Hemi engine with 375 hp (390 optional), and a 140+ mph top speed.

Hmmmmmmmmmm,

Hi, I'm a new guy, nice BB, I quite like it!! Now, 10 cars???

1 McLaren F1
2 Ferrari Enzo
3 Porsche 911S4
4 Ruf GTR
5 Ferrari Modena 575
6 Skyline GT-R 34
7 BMW M5
8 Subaru Impreza WRX STi (and I'd try to get the wagon version for my MTB's)
9 Lotus Exige/Elise
10 Caterham CSR 260
11 Range Rover Sport Supercharged (Just cus)

There's tons more of course, but hey... they'll do. Now if I could only have a couple to fit my current lifestyle (read non-exsistent) I'd choose a Honda Element for the bikes, and such, and a Mazdaspeed 6, if it came in wagon format.

Yes Iv seen the dyno many times the cars crazy. But I'm just not a hugh fan of nitrous and I really dont know how to use it properly and I dont really know any one who does. Nitrous is tricky stuff exspecially when you have no idea baout it.
