Matra, was that the Tamiya kit? Man I remember looking at 1 at my local hobby shop everytime I passed by but never was able to afford it (and never will) :(

I love all my kits, each and every one is my favorite. :)

Yes it was. But 25 years ago these kits weren't as expensive.
Scares me to see the price some of these kits go for on eBay !!!

My personal favourites go out to the 2 best models I did-My 1973 Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 by Fujimi (had to go through hell to get that one), finished it in Pearl White /Light Transparent Purple so it looks white but up close in light it's kind of purplish.

My other is one I finished about a week ago, a brand new Tamiya Kit, A;lfa Romea GTV. My Paasche hasn't failed me yet, and the coat on this one is the best I've ever done. This is the only one where I actually paid attention to the engine because I usually don't care and just put them on unpainted. But damn-I hate those metal transfer emblems-I jusst finished an Alpine a110 and it did work out, but not like I had hoped. Any help on that?

The two favourite pre-built models I have are by AutoArt, one is a Panoz AIV Roadster (1999,red) and a Lotus Esprit (1984, yellow). God, I love those.

I'll put some pix on eventually.

Just cut them very close to the edge, and then lift them from the transparent background using an exacto knife. There will be enough glue left on the sticker to keep it on its place. Don't bother with the offical Tamiya instructions, rubbing it with a pencil of sorts. Imagine that you have to do the Benz star on the radiator of the MB600SEL. What colour did you use on the alpine?

I still have to work on the Fujimi 1967 911R model.

I did a Tamiya light blue and then about 5 minutes later I put on Testors True Blue Pearl, so in the light it is a light blue but in the shade it is much darker, the colour is very close to that on the box.

Thanks for the tips..I'll have to try that.

I did mine in Tamiya Alpine blue. You actually put the Testors on a wet coat or was 5 minutes enough not to mix up the paint.

Esperante
08-13-2004, 07:46 AM
Yeah, it mixed, the light Tamiya wasn't metallic--but it turned out looking exactly like that, maybe a little lighter, and it looks very nice, very clean. When I was at my local hobby store they only had a few Tamiya paints, so I had to improvise. As soon as I get my server set up, I'll put a pic up.

25th Countach
09-25-2006, 08:18 AM
Hello everybody,
Im new to this site and thought Id offer my information.

I have 64 Die cast in 1/18. Ive only built die cast's once, but decided to stick with buying them. (And repairing them if they break or dont get shipped with care.) I do / have built ship models, Titanic, SS. U.S, Bismark, Queen Mary etc etc.

I have a very select amount of diecast. Certain cars are just so damn sexy.

*They are in a spare bedroom in their boxes, being stored as I live in an apt*. Trying to remember exactly what I have

Lambos: 1 86 Countach, 2 Diablo a standard in red and the SV in white and a Mercielago in orange.
Ferrari: a F50, A 550 maranello and a white Testarossa (Miami Vice )from 88.
Porsche: a Yellow 87, and a 98 (?) 911 from SCCA (?) racing has UPS logo and colors, a 356, and a 95.
Vettes: a 54, a 04 and a 01, a 63 in glass and in metal, a 74.
BMW's: mostly 3series coupes sedans and conv's
MercedesBenz: An A Class, a SLK 98, 3 SL's 1yr before and after the Gullwing m.y. 3 in total and the 96 ML.
Dodge: Vipers 2 98 GTS, 1 95 in red, 2 Pt Cruisers -the concept hot rod in gold, and the standard purple one from autoshows. I also have a Prowler free from an autoshow, a Sidewinder concept.
Jag: An XJ220 from 94, a E type conv in green and an XK last gen conv.
I also have a Delorean and a couple of Classics, 59 Eldo, 57 Chevy, 59 Impala, 57 and 03 Concept Tbird.

My hope is to pick up a bunch of movie cars, General Lee, ECTO, the Lexus car from IROBOT etc etc. Along with a Citroen DS. I try not to pick up the most high end sports cars. Mostly vehicles that just stand out. I never buy 70s cars.

As for my favorite:
Hmm, Hard question.
My Testarossa I love cause of those deep set "gills." My 59 Eldo Pink Caddy just screams FINS. My Etype looks sexy, sweet and the color just makes it so sexy. My Countach... I think is among the best.

Are the EB110's you have from maisto or some other company?

Very late reply, Carsnut ! So sooory 'bout that.
The Older bugs are: Bugatti T59 GT from Bburago (this one I modded myself by including radiator cover, common on all T59 racers but omitted by BBurago, highlighted chrome parts in engine and painted up wooden steering and dash guages.
Then the T41 Grand Napoleon is a Solido, newer one from China as the original Solidos were ghastly !! More toy than model !
The T59 Roadster is also Bburago.
The EB110's are Bburago and Anson and the Dauer is Maisto.
I'll be posting pics of the new display case in a new thread and then give a detailed breakdown. Got to take some pics first!

PS and definitely UCP's biggest Bug fan! Anyone else have 3791 Bug pics ???
I also am the liaison between Castrol and various sites on the World Production Car Speed Challenge, sponsored by Castrol.
Incidentally, the new date has been tentatively set for 1st September 2007. Providing the track resurfacing is ready by then !

Interesting cuestion, therefore, I'm posting after one year or more.
Hard cuestion, hard answer because I'm die cast collector (1:18 mainly) and modeler (1:24 my priority he! he! he!)
Well, I suppose that Ferrari 500 F2 by CMC (thalking about die cast) and Mercedes Benz 190E 2.6 16 EVO II by Fujimi. Really, my second model car in my life.

I have lots of great looking models fromt he expensive to the budget line but my favourite has to be my 1964 250GTO-64. It has always been my favourite Ferrari, I even had a 1/32 slot car made by Monogram way back in the 60's. So it hold a nostalgic note for me.

The old Joker Zagato Abarth 695 Coupe, Air-Trax Herald, Air-Trax Saab 96 V4, Air-Trax Cortina Mk1 sedan and SW, Air-Trax Ford Taunus P3, Air-Trax Volvo P1800, Air-Trax TR4, Air-Trax Anglia 105, and some older kits fro the '60s and '70s that not have been reissued.

I think they've been VERY clever with their pricing :)
It's at a level you end up buying models you like rather than just the ones you want !!
Definately not the quality of £100 models up close, but in a display all the right curves and detail.

Just wish they had offered colours in the A610 !! If tax return this year think I'll buy another one to strip and repaint :)
