Well Wouter's probably too modest (!) to announec it himself, but there are FANTASTIC pictures of some classic cars at http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.mv?file=Features/lemansclassic2004.html

My favourites are the CSL with the wheel lifted ( can you tell the car followign it ?? ) and the Bizzarina heading into the gravel. GREAT ACTION SHOTS !!!

Job well done, Wouter.

I agree, great shots. Nice to see a good old-fashioned Le Mans start. Sorry, I'd just caught up with the Canadian Concours and missed the new set being posted.

The Bizzarini in the gravel is awesome. after seeing the picture of the Lister Jaguar I can for the first time fully grasp how low it is: the driver is seated so deep in between the wheels!

PS: are there any books around that state all the post-war Le Mans-cars with their technical particularities and specifications?

I'm not aware of a single publication with them all.

But their are numerous marques books covering their models. The Alpine one is $100 :(

Also their is a Le Mans yearbook published wihch has allt he cars, teams and race statisitics and lots of VERY nice pics. But each one is about $75 and you'd have to buy every year - some of the oldr ones have been seen to sell for $200 :(

From the smileys you can guess I've neuither for the Alpines and Matras and unlikely to at those prices.

But it's not all gloom and despondancy, the web comes to the rescue.
THere are hundreds of sights on Le Mans and by spedning some time you could find all the find you seek. A lot will be in French though :) As well as serarching for "Le Mans" do "La Sarthe" for local info,

It's a shame there isn't a single book describing all the post-war cars participating in that race. Perhaps I should write one then! :p

Great shots, I love the Dino 246 S great car. Although I thought that was a mid engined car, or maybe that was the 246 SP?

Thank you all for the kind words. It was an exhausting trip, but very well worth it.

Ferrari has put the name 246 Dino on sportsracers, F1-cars and road cars. That's what started the confusion. The 246 S was the front engined car, of which there are various versions. The bodyshape progressed with that of the 250 TR. The mid-engined cars were called SP, but the later 206 has had S, P and SP added to name for the various versions.
