Wow...... congrats man... that is great car... I hope someday I could have a car of that caliber. I am sure you will take good care of it. And remember... you don't have to be good..... but at least be careful  .

The Jaguar dealership in Plano is actually going to start selling those next year. For some reason that dealer has some sort of deal.

It was reported from the Dallas Morning News.
I would love to test drive one if they let me, but if not...well, I can always admire it! :D

I have no doubts after seeing the way the flash reflected off the lights in the 1st pic.

OH Crap, Congrats man. Hope you had fun driving it. The elise is a handling monster. Its small and light weight but handles like a freak.

Does anyone know of any real competetors to the Elise (ie. small and agile) that are North American or Australian?

A skateboard?

If you lived in Europe you could use the weather to your advantage:
Wet + Roundabout = Wheeeee! (spin, crash)

I hope you get to enjoy it too its fullest potential soon.

cant think of one at the moment but as the elise is british i guess the best comparison to it is the Vauxhall VX220. is that sold in america ?

Congrats CassioC, seems that yo8u are the envy of a lot of people and rightly so.
What kind of responce have you had whilst driving around Miami?

CassioC
08-04-2004, 07:19 AM
i live in a building, so i park in the building garage (hence the presence of other cars, etc...)

yes, it's a maseratti that parks next to me. used to be a station wagon, and the day i parked the elise it was replaced by the maser. imho, the maseratti can't hold a candle to the elise though.

response in miami has been great. people crane their necks, point, i've even seen some flashes. no cop attention, which is quite welcome. :D

BTW, your Lotus looks either like an Elise 111R, or Elise 111s.
Anyways, the 111R:
0-60: 4.9 Sec
Top Speed: 150MPH
BHP: 189

The Maserati Spyder:
0-60MPH: 4.7 Sec
Top Speed: 176MPH
BHP: 385

I'm guessing your Lotus is an Elise 111R since the 111R was released this year.
Anyways, you can see, the Spyder is more than a match for you. Although, your 0-60s are very close.

Let me know if you are coming up to Boca Raton someday ;)

I see you are getting rain down there too..... It's getting pretty anoying over here.

Closer than you imagine.

As one of the US spec cars it's the Toyota engine which
is 190bhp and gives 0-60 in 4.7s and top speed of 150.

:) and where will you be able to go faster than 150 ??

It'll be the 111R, seeing as that's the only version available in the USA...
The Maserati Spyder has slightly dubious handling, especially compared to the Elise.

TG Hot laps:
Elise 1.35.6
Saab 9-5 Aero 1.37.9
Mazzer 1.38.0

The figures never tell the whole story. ;)

That I agree with. The Elise is a very fast little car. And from what I have heard, it's a very good car to take around sharp corners, noting that it has one of the best turning capabilities.

I've driven a LOT of bad-ass cars, but nothing like the Elise. the handling is simply unreal. i'm still taking it (very) slow right now because i want to break the car in right, but already it's impressed me by just easily taking some corners at moderate speeds. can't wait to start pushing it.

as far as the maseratti goes, it can be just as fast, but looks nowhere near as good as the elise. i'm of the opinion that the elise is one of the best looking cars out there today (i'm biased though). it's drawn more stares than a ferrari, and to somebody who doesn't follow cars too closely, can easily pass for something just as expensive.

Be careful as you start pushing it.
The Elise grip is exceptional and breakaway is quite progressive to a point and THEN it rear-end snaps quite quickly.
You can build a lot of over-confidence whilst playing at the limits of the breakaway, but just remember it needs you to react fast and with throttle and steering input to bring it back or keep it on the balance of oversteer. ( Much more so thatn with a fornt-engine RWD, so it' sjust typical mid but well behaved :) )
Lots of Elise end up in the gravel at Knockhill on their owners first days out till they build the feel for the balance and the skill to control it :)

the elise runs on Toyota's 2ZZ-GE VVTL-i engine right?

The only version officially available in the US is the Toyota one.

AFAIK UK buyers still can chose their engine optoins.

We've long specialised in large RWD sedans and just now delved into AWD wagon crossovers. So no successful attempt at small sportscars. The kit car industry is building though, we're said to prodoce the best GT40 replica's, but we've also got alot of Cobra replica's and like alot of places i suppose theres a vast amount of Lotus 7 replicas. but GT40, Cobra and 7 replicas arent comparable to an Elise now are they
