The M6 will return in 2005, this time with a 5.5-liter V-10 engine pushing nearly 500-horsepower. Sources tell us the all-new M6 will reach 0-60 in under 5.0 seconds. Take a gander at the huge, cross-drilled brake rotors. Major competitors will surely include Porsche's 911 Turbo and the Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG. An M6 Convertible will debut a year later.

How come? The M5 and the M6 are both top of the line BMWs. Besides, I would guess that the market is different for the cars, the M5 buyer is likely to be married with kids, hence the 4 doors, he or she just doesn't wanna give up having a top performance car. The M6 buyer is more likely to be single, doesn't need 4 doors or bought the M5 for his or her spouse to drive the kids around in, lol :D
