I was wondering if anyone can actually AFFORD any of the cars they claim to have or want? it seams silly to talk about what cars you want for your garage, but hey, we all gotta dream right? so heres the deal:
everyone put what their favorite car THAT THEY CAN AFFORD is and why.
no lying people, theres no shame in the level of car you can afford, so be truthful

mine:
Audi RS6
practical family car
Fast as s**t
good looking
450 horses told me to do it

Im not old enough to drive so I'll do second best .. my cousin :D

At the end of September he should be getting an S1 Exige (My favourite). Thats my dream affordable car anyway .... Whats good about it? Its Raw, Fast, Handling to die for, Noise to die for, Looks to die for, Seating position to die for, Extremely ache provoking seats that keep you on your toes which later in life will probably make you die  Either that or a Replica of some sort .. Pilgrim Sumo with Rover V8 maybe (Cobra Replica) ... Ive always had a think for the Chesil Speedsters (Porsche Speedster replicas). Failing an Exige later in life .. an Elise will suffice

Not bad.

Hmm... Probably something American muscle, from the 60's or 70's... Or a C5 or C6 Vette one day. But I'd love to have a Tornado red VW R32 with cloth interior (the rarest color/interior combination) with a twin turbo setup. VR6 + turbo = Woah fast.

I can afford one of the cars I want, the Sentra SE-R. I have a '93 Sentra XE two door 5-speed waiting for me that will hopefully soon will have an SR20DE engine in it soon. Just need to get my license and make more money.

fer a reality dream car, i'd have to go fer a 3000GT VR-4. perfect fer me, 320 horses under the hood, awd, and the perfect babe magnet. and if not that, then its counter part (sort of) 300ZX Twin Turbo.

Is it you that could or your dad? It doesn't count untill you buy your car with your money, if not, it's dad's car even if you drive it.

I'd love a Nissan 180SX Intercooled Turbo, Full Drift Specs, Nismo Engine, Japanese Drift Spec Rims, the works :D. But just a Normal 180SX Intercooled Turbo is in my reaches. Except for the insurance. Boy racers have screwed up my chances of owning one! Thats why I wanna get a Daihatsu Charade Detomaso. 850KG 95kw Hot Hatch means lotsa fun!!

in Karmann's absence ......

TO be a better citizen and protect the environment as best you can in the US car market.

leather ? the last thing I want in any car I own is leather.
How many race seats do you see in leather ? There IS a reason.
Leather's OK, for some lardy-assed lawyer or merchant (w|b)anker.
It's OK for polishing and posing, but sucks for everything else !!!!!

:)

Granted the Prisu is not the fastest 0-60, but that's not why it woudl be chosen as 'ultimate'. AND when "insert favourite car" can't run coz there's no gas, which is "ultimate' then ?? :)

time to leave UCP then :)

No serisuly the "egg Nog challenge" is the vest tool UCP has to keep the idiots out !! And in the best democracies it applies to ALL. No poitn having a rulle for the rich and a rule for the poor. That's just devisive.

besides, it helps put things in context what we drive when we're young/poor/both :) My first self-funded car was a Mini. It started out a pretty rusty heap with no guts. Ended up a mean road rally machine. ( Well actually it 'ended' as a rusting heap - c'est la Mini :)

Or

what i am hoping ot have for my first car, which i will hopefully be getting in the next 6 months. a Mk2 escort 1295cc 2 door :)

There are a few cars i'd like, in reality i'll probably never achieve them.....

First Car: Something simple, like a Nissan Maxima or Honda Accord, easy to drive and spacious.

Then i can go in 2 directions.
If i want to be a "Car enthusiast", i'll find an old Mini, Lancia or Alfa Romeo, or Even a Saab 900 Turbo.
If i want to impress the ladies, go for the Nissan EXA or something similar.

Then, when i get a family, go for something like the Holden Adventra, Ford Territory or Nissan X-Trail.

Or, failing all of this, Go for a Mazda RX-8 and it should do all the jobs of the above.

DAMN, missed that opportunity :)

On the leather longevity ... the problem is the surface survives but the padding and springs are knackered and useless. So to keep it supportive, you need to replace the insides every 5-10 years.
It seem's as well to replace the whole seat and so the "longevity" of the leather becomes moot.

BUT, I ahave to say nothing beats the smell of leather in and old Jag :)

IBrake4Rainbows
09-01-2004, 04:50 AM
Especially when your sitting there, waiting for the RAC, you'd have a lot of time to sit and toddle with the interior.

I've heard bad, bad things about old Jags.....

Maybe just the XJ40?

Actually I have face that problem in earlier Citroens and replacing the driver cushion with of the passenger seat helped for a while. 200000 km's later I am still having some support, in French car you are more sitting in a seat rather than on, which contributes greatly to the long distance comfort.

i cant afford a car right now, being a poor uni student, but when i do get some money, i will first buy a cheap reliable car.

after that i hope to find a lexus sc400 somewhere that hasnt been modified. its a brilliant car. smoothest V8 in the world (they once did a test on it, they put a 50c coin on the engine, and it didnt fall over till they revved to 6000 rpm), leather, climate control, adjustable suspension, touch screen controls, etc.

very good performance too. and all this for under 20,000AU.

dude how old are you? for my mind if you really could afford an RS6 you would already have a half decent car. that being the case what is your current ride?

now in relation to the thread, my current 3 realistic dream cars would probably be 1. the new holden commodore sv6 2. the TJ magna vr-x 3. the new nissan maxima

why? all these car have reliable (thus far) v6 engines. one thing i couldn't afford is the insurance and petrol costs of a v8. finally i don't want them to be fast, just practical and full featured. if i wanted a fast car i would need to be seriously wealthy to purchase 360 CS :D

Yeah, you dont want leather! You want Leapord skin :p Or if durabilitys a problem .. Snake Skin! If thats not grippy enough then Velcro is perfect for you ... Umm ... Prius in Zebra skin

At the 2001 NEC Sportcar Show I got to have a ride in an E - Type and it smelt great (Not that I went sniffing the cockpit .. think the driver would look at me a bit weird ;) )

1) Honda Civic Type-R
2) Audi RS6
3) Jaguar XKR Coupé

Guess which one's the car enthusiast....

I want to clear something up- I may be 15, but I go to a young driver's club. Sometimes, we get to race older drivers. OK? Mum is buying used, therefore the chances of getting a cheap RS6 are not-good to OK, whilst I drive the Civic because I got it free.

Excellent. Where do you race and what types of vehicles ?

Lots of folks on UCP ask me for advice on getting started and driving before licenses are availabel and so far I've only been able to offer 'karting' as an answer.

Any links to club web sites or details of cars or pics ??

Once I get the now Sentra XE up to SE-R spec, I be taking it to some SCCA events down at Road Atlanta, hopefully. There is also some SCCA autocross events done in the parking lot of the baseball stadium here in Atlanta. Can't wait to get started working on the car. After next semester I'll know how to do a good bit of fabricating (ie welding, milling, lathe, hopefully get to learn to use the mandrel bender) and will be making some of my own parts. I love having access to a fabrication shop right here on campus. :D

the 2.7t with sport package, rims and supsension, will go for about 32,000 for a 2002, but im just building the sport package on my own for cheaper and more custom

Dream Car I could afford now: 96 Mustang GT (insurance would be a streach on my funds) I gotta have something with a V8... and a nice limited slip rearend.

To bad my buddy could still kick my ass with his '97 T/A WS6

Dream Car I will be able to afford: Hopefully in about 10 years I will be able to buy a new Corvette. Whatever is the best vette at the time.

Moral of the story is.... College is way to expensive. But it should pay off. I hope to be somewhere in the range of about 70k a year starting salary plus beneifits. (engineers get paid well  )

2) I never take photos of my car, its great to drive (only car i've ever driven, so it must be great) but looks absolute crap.
3) www.under17-carclub.co.uk/ this is the website
4) I have raced at many tracks, including Castle Coombe and the TRL (right behind my house!!!)
5) I am a Level 3 driver.

The SCCA is a great way to get involved in racing in the USA. It offers, club, rally, and Auto Cross. Here (http://www.scca.com/) is the link.
