Just to bring back some life into these forums, what do you think is your favourite hatchback and why ?? Is it the legendary Golf GTi, SVT Focus, Civic Si, A3, Seat Leon (for those who get it), Alfa 147 . . .

Just mention your favourite hatchback as long as its "stock". And by that I mean not modified out of the factory. Factory mods on cars like SVT Focus and M Coupe are considered "stock".

i like the first generation Golf GTI the most because of four reasons: first; my dad owned one and it was really fun to ride in on bumpy roads, second because of it's looks, third; because it essentially invented the sport-hatchback, and forth; of course, because i love volkswagon, and

volkswagon rules!

The only one available to Canadians that I might pick as the best is the Golf R32 (Coming soon!). Other than that, I'd definately have to go with a Seat/MG/Alfa Romeo hot hatch :)

My choice would be the Honda Civic Type-R with its 2.0 i-vtec engine sprinting from 0-100 kmh in 6.6 secs.

peugeot 205 GTI either with 1.6 or 1.9 litre.
and for the costs a Citroen AX GTI, weighs nothing, goes like hell.

My god, it does not always have to be a Benz, please, use your imagination for once. This by the way to me is a coupe and not a hatchback, the difference being that a coupe compromises on the rear seat head and leg room, while a hatchback does not.

I'd have to go with the Golf R32 ...looks real nice and performs even nicer. :)

Second choice would be for the Civic SiR another competent car ....just gotta get past its "way too big" headlights.

How about the 206 Gti 180 with 180 bhp & 17" alloy wheels?
It is just fascinating.

Well, I am of an older generation, I like the hatches that were still pure and not compromised by 100's of kilo's extra due to confort stuff and safety measures. AX GTI < 700 kg's, 105-110 BHP

In Europe the Coupe was also available in the regular Z3 trims, not just the M version as it was in North America.

People , doesnt anyone here agree with me that the Alfa 147 is an AMAZING hatchback ?!!!

The GTA comes with a naturally aspirated 3.2 litre V6, 250hp, 300 Nm / 221.3 ft lbs of torque, 6 speed manual, 246 km/h top speed, not sure how fast to 60mph, but it should be stunning @ 1360 kg / 2998.3 lbs !!!

Its probably my favourite hatchback on the market today.

I just received the electronic Citroen News letter, introducing the C2, the spiritual successor of tht AX. Just to prove what i meant with my earlier post the Citroen people are actually proud of the fact that the whole range weighs less than 1000 kg, except for the 1.6 VTR version which is 1030 k. (so 10 years later you get 50% additional weight, is this all to protect ourselves against the likes of the X5 or M-Class?)

That ties the R32, should be a very very interesting comparison !!

What about the Mini Cooper S Works ??
200 bhp / 149.2 kW @ 6950 rpm
210 Nm / 154.9 ft lbs @ 4000 rpm
140.4 mph / 226.0 km/h
6 Speed Manual
0-60 should be very similar to the Alfa and the R32 !!

Mini Cooper is too small and expensive for its class
I think the engine is very good, and very nice style and design.

Sorry this is not a hatchback, just a 2 seater roadster with an extended roof. It does not qualify for this thread in spite of its undeniable qualities.

They were pretty cool cars. I used to hate them...when I first saw them, they seemed so ugly, so underpowered.....so crappy, lol. But then I started to discover the reasons why people appreciated them so much. The light weight, rear wheel drive, easily modified, just a very fun car to drive (so they say, I've never driven one, don't get me wrong).

It's kinda quirky looking, but very unique and kinda cool.
