they have the SS versions on i think 3 diff. chevrolet models, the monte carlo, silverado, maybe the impala... i might be wrong about the last one.

Im pretty sure they were just using that as a marketing play to attract younger people. The "SS" badge is supposedly going to be used for the next generation Camaro, whenever that comes out.
