Nope.

For 55K I would go for something newer, you can get a C5 Z06 and have money left.

Me with 55K I would probably get a Subaru, or a nice BMW or something like that and have money left for other stuff.

I think the problem is there are few classic car enthusiasts who know the rpices for US Corvette's.

Classic car prices are more to do with what someone is willing to pay rather than what a car is actually worth. You need to check price sources for the USA - classic car mags will likely list.

UK Classic Cars mag lists a 59 "Vette as 24,000 pounds if in Mint condition to as low as 9,000 pounds for 'rough'. So $55K sounds a bit steep unless it is concourse or special history. But, those are UK market prices where we don't value 'Vettes as highly as US owners.

Could we get some pictures to go off? What's the overall condition? When was it restored? How was it restored? Matching numbers? Air conditioning? Power options? All of these and more will dictate what the car is worth (in the collector world).

Your best bet is finding a Corvette-based forum where the people there are super-knowledgable about that car. Also get the VIN; there's people who can break down the codes and tell you exactly what the car looks like without ever seeing a picture.

So... You have to pay the fees to have it transported, correct? Or do you buy the car and fly to the east coast, drive it home and have proper time to bond with it? All that aside for now though.

What is special about this car? Is it simply a 59 Vette or is there more beyond this? Is it all original with low miles or is it a frame off restoration job done very well? Conv. or Coupe? If you are buying this car as a daily driver I must say that I think you may be happier with a new one. If I were looking at buying this car I would look it over with a discerning eye. 59 Vettes are not ones you hear a great deal about. If this car were a 53 or 54 Vette w/ the Blue Flame Six I could see paying that amount. As simply a 59 Vette with what I assume to be the 283 V8 then possibly not.

That is my two cents worth, sorry if I have given it too late, and glad to see I'm actually being missed;-).

A Stingray, you say? Now that's a model I can go for. But I'd find a cheaper price. a Stingray for 55K has to be in excellent condition, and the only Stingrays I can think of being that high are the Indy 500 Pace Car versions.

hmm converted, non-original V8...i'd say no on the $55g's.

but a beautiful original, id say could quite possibly be worth 55g's

For $55k you could get something decent, dude! A used 70s/80s Corvette, or as someone else suggested, a C5 Z06. I'd take the Z06, amazin vehicle! Don't waste it on some sh!theap that will break down, be slower than a snail with TB, and may lose it's value like a grand piano pushed off the Empire State building. Go with the Z06 that's as fast as a snail with a rocket backpack :D:D:D
