2001 ford focuses have had many complaints about them having Engine fires out of nowhere. now this isn't 1 car but many and all of them had the fire caused by the same thing!

here (http://www.geocities.com/archangel_jjn/)

now please note that i'm NOT ragging on ford, I think fords are good cars, the only Ford that I think is a pile of junk is the Focus. I have a 1993 Ford Escort and I wouldn't give it up for the world.

Old news Karrmann, they recalled over 1/2 million of these US versions for various reasons and acknowledged they had manufacturing issues with the placement of the battery cable. Look to the factory construction on that one :(

Oh, yeah, the 2.0L ZETEC Battery and a check of the torque of the lower shock mount (I think). Not all of the ones I did had the entire battery kit used. I think I had one out of, like, 15 or 20 that needed the entire kit.

This is really tiresome.

The Focus is not a bad car, Ford have sold millions and millions of them.
If they were bad cars, then they wouldn't sell in the numbers they do, across the globe.

I don't know what you are trying to achieve with this relentless crusade against the Focus, but please give it a rest.

well in the US the Focus is the worst you can get

a girl complained that the steering wheel came off
another girl complained that when she pulled innto her garage she slammed on the brakes and her Focus didn't even slow down.
a guy complained thet he bought a Focus and when he turned on the turn sigional his tailgate popped open and he had smoke coming out of the bottom of his dashboard so he took the key out of the ignition and the engine kept running, he had to pull a fuse and stall the engine to get the Focus to shut off (and no his car wasn't on fire a wire fried)

it sees that Europe gets the good ones and the US gets stuck with the lemons :(

You do seem to get poor design even though it starts from a good base :(
Also, sounds like equally poor construction and servicing, maybe.

Here is Aus we get the European Focus. Looks like the best decision Ford have made in a while.:D

well in all the storeis, the Focus was a good reliable car at first but when it got borken in that's when it started to fall apart (all the big problems happening)

I couldn't resist, karrmann, sorry :) :)

LANCASTER, Pa. -- For the second year, Ford has placed four vehicles on the lemon list.

The law firm of Kimmel and Silverman has put out its latest lemon list--a list of the vehicles that generate the most consumer complaints.

No. 1 on the list is the Ford Escape with owners reporting problems with airbag sensors, engine warning lights and doors that are very difficult to close.

The No. 2 lemon is a newcomer on the list and on the road. The Toyota Prius is a hybrid car that runs on gas and electricity. A number of consumers have complained that the engine shuts off frequently, but it's supposed to do that.

"In my opinion that one problem is not a problem. It's a normal function of the vehicle to stop and appear it's shutting off when in fact it's on battery power," attorney Craig Kimmel said.

There have also been complaints of Prius drivers losing control when applying the brakes and tire blowouts.

Putting the engine shut off aside - how many complained about a car doing what it's meant to :) The customer is always right my ass :) Losing control when braking and getting on the NUMBER 2 spot. maybe crowing about the Focus was a little premature :)

It was the pinch bolt. Heheh, I remember it well. My dad told me it was like 7 Ft./Lb.s when it was supposed to be 7 INCH/Lb.s. Snapped right off, I looked at him and said, "Uhh, dad, it snapped!" Dad: "OH SH!T! It was 7 INCH/Lb.s!! Sorry!" We then found a used car and replaced the pinch bolt because the customer was waiting, then ordered one for the used car.

Losing control is a driver problem, if you lose control of the vehicle thats your bad, and tyre blowouts can happen on any car, do say why there are tyre blowout? probably becasue they overinflated them

yeah, there wer no details Supra.

but from an engineering POV, the Prius used regenerative braking so it would be 'odd' compared with normal cars and it COUDL have faults in how the computer decided on when to allow the hydraulic braking to apply. Computers in control there :(

Agreed on the tyres :) but it was just to counter Karrmann's Prius-love :)
here wasn't a date on that Karrmann, I did a quick google on "prius lemon" as EVERY car at some time in it's life ends up with a lemon even M-B, BMW and Jag :)

What is regenerative braking?

IBrake4Rainbows
09-16-2004, 12:27 AM
When the Prius is stopping, the brakes create Electricity using little generators, which store the electricity in the batteries. Quite smart.

but it's the same as any other car, it has it's faults, both of Australias best selling cars have had recalls, it's called product improvement, it just means that there was something in the original design that didn't work well. Deal with it.

You are constantly saying one thing and doing another.

You think it is ok to constantly critisise the Focus, yet if others want to critisise the Prius, that isn't ok.

You call for spammers to be banned for life, yet when you started out, you were a serial spammer.

You say the Focus is a bad car because there are a few hundered/thousand reports of faulty cars.

What about the millions of owners who haven't had a problem - are they all wrong?

We hired an 04 reg Focus for my sister to go up to newcastle to collect her *new* Lupo (sweet lil thing!) and we compared it to our 2001 Y Honda Civic. The Civic is quieter, roomier, better to drive, has a classier interior, and is generally a better car.

yes, you know the whole Firestone incident? it was Noone's fault. (and no i'm not talking about Dave)

when the tire blew out people went out of control and panicked, so the Explorers flipped over.

Yeah, that was a pain in my back, literally. I got stuck doing the majority of them, then the smell of burning rubber, guh.
