I just went to eat something and found 16 windows opened when I came back.

Also, when I open Explorer the home page is some sort of IP number (XXXXXXX.Index) and I set it back to yahoo.com, close and open and doesn't work it just sends me back to that "IP#.com" address.

I don't like pop up blockers, and besides this seems a bit more complicated.

What can I do to get rid of the pop ups and setting my home page like it was before?

Thanks.

Porn/sex spyware can be found anywhere, not just porn sites.

Yeah right. :D If you have a Mac, Safari blocks most of them.

well I found something called oteensex.com saved inmy history and a Maxium picture saved on my computer of Jessica Alba.

I never did that so i'm assuming it's my brother that lives with me. i'll tell him to stop cause if he keeps it up all the shit those sites secretely install on your computer.

oh yeah I can also tel cause I use IE and he uses Mozilla, and lots of porn and sex spyware are on my system and they are all tracked through mozilla.

i'm putting a stop to this.

Niko, be aware that even having a firewall and antivirus still allows this crap to appear. My advise to you is to change your browser to firefox.

Try downloading CWShredder... its a very good software!...it helps to get rid of those popups, trojans, hompage hijackers... it only takes a few seconds to scan ur computer...
Here's the link: http://computercops.biz/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=search

If things r not working....you could try 'HijackThis' and run the log, dont delete what u find... yet. save the log, copy it and go on some computer security site for ppl like computercops.biz or www.theeldergeek.com and ask them to look at the log... they'll tell u wots wrong and wot to delete...

oh yeah.... to find 'HijackThis' go here: http://computercops.biz/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=search

Guys I want to thank you all for your help.

I couldn't even download spybot and adaware, I had to download it on my brother's pc and send it over to me through msn messenger. After running those 2 programs they detected a bunch of stuff, deleted it and everything but the programs stayed there. I ran the anti-virus and got 42 viruses, deleted them etc but the pop ups kept pilling up and IE was still messed up.

I did a system recovery, I placed my folders on my D Disk and erased everything from Disk C. The pc is like new right now.

How can I prevent this to happen? The pc isn't even a year old and this is the second time I format it. Should I stop using IE or is there a way to use IE without having these kind of problems?

Thanks

IE has a lot of security issues, thats why microsoft keeps releasing updates and patches. I had a problem a while ago with some toolbar attaching itself to my IE, and have had other problems with pop ups.
Use Firefox http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/start/ you'll find it faster and no pop-ups.

Thanks again for the replies.

download the Google toolbar and pop-up blocker. I know you don't like to use them, but you can easily set it to allow pop-ups on certain pages, 1 specific pop up, what kind of pop-ups.......it works. It says it's blocked out 1,327 opop-ups so far. :)

Or just use Mozilla, which does it all automatically and comes standard with a little google search window that doesn't take up extra space like the toolbar does :)

A lot of people use Mozilla just because it's not Microsoft, but it really is just flat-out better than IE. You're far less likely to get any kind of spyware or virus.

But what can I say? People are stubborn! ;)

Yeah get Firefox! For those that aren't famielure, tabbed browsing is where you can open website pages in the same window, rather than a new window like Microsoft. One feature I really like is you can open a link in a new tab just by clicking the center button on your mouse; it doesn't take you to the new page link, so for example you can center-mouse click pictures and have them load in the background! Quite useful on dial-up I suppose (and Matt's high resolution hangout :p ).

Pop-ups? With Firefox you wont know what they are.

I run Spybot (http://spybot.safer-networking.de/index.php?page=home) and Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/); Spybot is said, and seams to be the best in my perspective, but doesn't grab everything, that's why I also run Ad-Aware, it picks up stuff Spybot doesn't...odd.

SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) is a system that warns you when malicious spyware is used. Just run Ad-Aware and Spybot first, then you can use this to help prevent stuff from even reaching your computer, like a blocker. Good stuff, but since I switched to Firefox It doesn't come up as often.. :)

MSFN guides and tutorials (http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=cat&id=10). I haven't looked through it yet, but I was toled I can learn a thing or to to help clean up my Windows XP and run faster *shrugs*
