I did own a gemini hotted up, But cause i was under 18 it was in my mums name:)
Till i had my licence, It was a hot little thing kermit green people laughed at us, Till we unleased the power:eek: it had plenty 1.8lt We guessed the power @130kw???
It did a 0-100 time of about 8sec or below, So based on weight and other things we thought it was about 130KW or something like that, It had fuel pump problems so it had more in it, We think the problem was it was to powerful and not enough fuel was going into it:eek:
We cleaned the tank had 5 new pumps tried but we couldn't get it right:(

not-proud: '73 Chevelle that I bought to build up, as it had the 4-bolt main bearing 350. After I had the suspension rebuilt it just sat on the street looking ugly. Neighbourhood association wrote me a few nasty notes about it...eventually gave it up.

I've only owned 2 cars
1. Proud : VB Commodore, I bought it off my bro's mate for $200, it had bin around the block a bit. Someone hit a tree in it so the front passenger door didn't open, you had to wind the seat down and get in the front from the back if you wanted to ride shotgun. It ran a 253, in a highly unique 'V7' setup; the 8th cylinder didn't fire. That and when you floored it the entire car shuddered uncontrollably until you hit about 50kph.
2. Not so proud(current): VL Commodore, yeah ok its bigger than most of my mates cars, its RWD and not a 4... but its still a jackass's car....good thing its got a big back seat....

I think theres a clog in mine or something, it occasionally just stops going:eek: like i plant the foot down and it jerks forward with the sudden stop of power being fed, then lurches forward again when it kicks back in, only lasts a second but it pisses me off! ATM i just shift when i feel it start to come in, its a work around but it still pisses me off.

you said you thought not enough fuel was getting in, so on an injected car i'd look at the injectors (like how the stock XR6T injectors wont give more than 280kw), but its not injected so that leaves the carby if you'd already looked into the fuel pump.....do you remember what CFM it was?

Nah i really can't remeber  It was big i know that :D .
It was fine till it got high in speed, Like you couldn't go flat in second and hit 80-100. It was like you were taking your foot on and off the peddle, then you hit third and it just was worse.
We changed engines on it, And the bloke wasn't keen on removing the carby from my old motor he wanted to just leave it on and take away the enigine, He said it would make it easy for him, I said noway jose :D

Even with that carby on it, The new engine was shit slow, Stock and maybe it felt worse cause the old engine was so strong:( Anyway the car didnt last long after that, Did a Timming chain and brakes went, Exhaust also, Just sold it to get rid of it it was starting to be more of a pain after the dont went:( But i do miss it still.

Thats why i cant bring myself to sell the datto, coz i know ill sell it to some dickhead P Plater (like me) wholl thrash it and either write it off or blow it up! either way itll end up scrapyard rusting. its like a member of the family now. thats half the reason im keeping it:)

Renault 4GTL (1979-1981) not a bad one for a young married couple with hardly an income.
Citroen Visa II Super E (1981-1982) Premature demise, got hit at the parking lot underneath our flat
Citroen Visa II Super E (1982-1985) Nice comfy car, very slow in fourth gear, too small to carry 4 persons with double baby stuff.
Citroen BX 19D (1985-1986) Premature demise, was folded around a lamp post in front of our house after being hit by an uncontrolled Ford Capri
Citroen BX 19D (1986-1990) Excellent long distance tourer, almost reached 200000 km's
Citroen BX Turbodiesel (1990-1993) a real goer, compared to the non-turbo.
Citroen BX Turbodiesel (1993-1997) picked this one up cheap as the BX was running out.
Citroen Xantia 1.9TD Break (1997-2000) bought at the time when breaks were offered at the same price as the sedans. Much slower than the BX, 300 KG more to propel.
Citroen Xantia II 2.0 HDi Break (2000-now) By far the best (and most expensive) car ever owned, history is told elsewhere on this site.

During the years we had a number of "second" cars, A Visa Super E, a Citroen AX 1.1, and a Citroen Saxo 1.4SX, which was given to our son in 2003 for his birthday, after having become superfluous to requirements due to the arrival of a Fiat Stilo 1.6, inherited from my late father. The Saxo was subsequently sold back to the dealer and the revenues were used to get the most famous Mini of this forum.

Maybe it's got something to do with the boys in the fordforum, They said they have had driveline shutters in the XR8 man, And they been saying it for ever, Now a paper has picked it up they hope that something will be done about it.

I've owned five cars:
I did without a car until my last year at uni, so I was in my early 20s before I actually owned on - too poor to own even an old banger. Used my parents cars prior to that.
In New Zealand - 1985 Ford Telstar 2.0GL (1995-96) - good for a first car. Cost NZ$3000 and it was mostly reliable for the 30,000km and 18 mths I owned it for. Not a particularly exciting car, but it did get thrashed and I drove it on a tour from Auckland to the bottom of the South Island and back - 5000km in two weeks.
1987 Ford Telstar 2.0i Anniversary (1996-1999) - very similar to the Mazda 626GT of the time. Special edition car built by Ford to celebrate 50 years of assembling cars in NZ. Sports suspension, close ratio 5-speed gearbox, Recaro style seats, 15 inch alloys (it was built in 1987 remember...) with 195/60 tyres, and a class leading (for the time) 86kW 2.0 fuel injected engine. Ford made only 200 of them. The car weighed 1,050 kg, and was actually quite quick (0-100km/h was about 9 seconds). I have good memories of that car - very good car to drive.

In Australia: 1982 Peugeot 505 (1999-2000) - only had this car for 6 months. I was slow, unreliable and too heavy to drive in Sydney traffic. Even the much vaunted French ride/handling compromise didn't impress me - but that was probably because that particular car was so old and probably hadn't been looked after properly for years.
1987 Holden Commodore VL (2000-2001) - loved the smoothness of the Nissan 3.0 engine in that car, but otherwise it wasn't a particularly good car to drive. Served me well for the 18 months I had it.
1997 Ford Mondeo 2.0LX (2001-current) - easily the best car I've ever owned, but also the most clinical. Has been reliable and efficient. Wanted a near new car that didn't chew gas (so no Falcon or Commodore), decided against the Magna and didn't want a small Corolla/Laser type car for the money I spent. Mondeo was a good compromise - cheaper than the Vectra, more interesting than a Camry and I knew about the Mondeo's reputation as an excellent handling car - which it is. Can't say I'll miss it when I do eventually sell it though.

Next car? Depends on what happens with the cost of fuel, but I'm now leaning towards a Falcon BA - preferrably the XR6. If not the Falcon - than a Mazda 6 will be tempting. I've now reached the point where my income is high enough that I'll suffer high fuel consumption to own a car I want.

fpv_gtho
10-30-2004, 05:53 AM
should probably look at picking up a BA XR6 coming from a fleet or something, their price compared to the Futura means no ones buying the Futura and everyones buying the XR6 now, so it'd be cheaper than a normal private sale....although you already know that :p

motorsportnerd
10-30-2004, 05:56 AM
It will be a good year to 18 months before I buy something. But could be a way to go.

fpv_gtho
10-30-2004, 05:59 AM
Well in 18 months time you'd be able to pick up a 2002/early 2003 BA with all of the 3 year depreciation gone.....but then again, i think the BA XR6's are holding 3 year value about 10 stronger than the standard XT's with a predicted value around 65%

Blue Supra
10-31-2004, 10:08 PM
mmm
i might be able to afford one in three years then:eek:
i need a good towing car and and XT would do very nicely indeed. until then a Series 2 VS commi is what im aiming for:)

fpv_gtho
10-31-2004, 10:41 PM
what are you planning on towing? the datto when youve modded it till its unregistrable :p

Blue Supra
11-01-2004, 12:35 AM
pretty much, once ive got it all smicko and happy with it for racing now. ill start saving again and buy a car that can tow nicely AND looks nice and feels good. Thus the Series 2 VS... once i hve that then i can derego the dat and go nuts on it!:D

fpv_gtho
11-01-2004, 12:48 AM
If you could you probably should look in an EF or EL, the straight ix in the falcon's got a good 50nm more torque than the Ecotec so it'll tow easier, plus i think the Falcon's rated to tow more

Blue Supra
11-01-2004, 12:50 AM
manual box strong? or should i go for an auto you reckon?

fpv_gtho
11-01-2004, 12:55 AM
personally, the auto's gunna be alot easier. theyre rated as being able to tow more than the manual, and it'd be easier to drive

Blue Supra
11-01-2004, 01:02 AM
yeh thats true, and the impossibility of finding a manual has to be considered as well...

fpv_gtho
11-01-2004, 01:05 AM
yeah, pretty much if you find a good condition manual Falcon or Commodore you may as well jump at it.....especially if its an XR6 as theres next to no manals...

Blue Supra
11-01-2004, 02:02 AM
yeh cheapest XR6 round that time was about 19k at John McGrath Ford... no thanks...

fpv_gtho
11-01-2004, 02:26 AM
Geez i'd want that to be an AU, EB-EL XR6's are usually under $10K for a decent enouh one, an EL might get around $12K-ish

SlickHolden
11-01-2004, 06:17 AM

I agree, But not on the same lines:D
The VS have body shifting problems, I have herd the about the rear doors shiftting and not being able to open right after towing heavy things such as a car. My mate tows his boat all the time it's about 200kg he never has problems, But i have seen my Brothers Ghia tow his works gear around this is 1500kg + does it ok to, And it's lowerd.

Yeh this was pre AU model. im not great with my Falcon models but it was a 96 97 model i think:confused:

fpv_gtho
11-01-2004, 11:10 PM
that'd be around the EF/EL transition, 94-96 was EF, 96-98 was EL.....

well slick, ive got some friends whos parents own a VS, and whenever they towed something, they always hooked it up to their hot rod for some reason :p for a long time though the highest rating holden tow kit was around the 1600kg mark with ford having their 2300kg kit, but now holden has the 2500kg kit on like the one tonner and crewman, im not sure about the sedans though........surprisingly the GT's still rated to tow 1600kg

SlickHolden
11-02-2004, 10:14 AM
It would be that problem, I also herd in the earlyer models they also had weak centre they could split in half there was no strength in the centre thats where they bend the back doors, But it seems they fixed that problem with VT-VZ finally.
I knew a bloke that had a Drag car and he wouldnt tow this thing with anything other then a Ford he told me the problem they had as early as VB he said:eek:

Blue Supra
11-02-2004, 09:19 PM
 splitting the car in half sounds a bit ordinary, maybe i should just get it engineered with an SR20 and drive it around:p

fpv_gtho
11-02-2004, 10:36 PM
nah, then it wont be competitive on track :p

what i reckon is, if you want something that'll tow it fairly easily, go for an EB-EL Falcon, EB's can go for about 5K in good condition. They make alot more torque than the Commodore V6 and generally lower down in the torque range

Blue Supra
11-03-2004, 01:45 AM

Whats wrong with your sunny? why do you hate it so much?
Well i never wanted it in the first place but my parents wouldent let up i even told them i hated the car (roughly 30 times)before i gave up and bought it...i hope they regretted always bugging me to get it because ihave never stopped complaining....its a peice of shit its slow its ugly and the 2 biggest ones it doesnt reflect me at all and i never wanted it in the first place! theres more but thems the basics...any queastions?

I was considering buying a charger but i havent found one in the right condition...i still might but id prefer something newer.

The only "MAJOR" difference between the 2 is in the engine, and thats with the dual length intake plenum fitted to the EF. i know you brother thinks he got like a friday afternoon car where they threw all the goodies at it :p but the standard engines compared had about 15nm and 10kw more in the EF than the ED. the most significant thing about it is i think it brought the torque peak closer to 3000rpm from 4-5000rpm
