I was on a long bikeride in my city of Cedarburg (we had a HUGE storm so I decided to go out and take pix) and I came across a 1974 Saab Sonnet III for sale down the street. From what I saw it was in pristine condition (except for the driver's seat, which had a small tear). It's in British Racing Green, a big turn on for me. It recently had been updated with Bilstein/Koni shocks, has 61,000 miles on it (eh, nothings perfect) and was running for $4700 USD. Is this a good deal? Could someone supply me with some info on the car? As soon as I can I will update you with the pictures I took of it.

$4700, if it runs and hasn't any accident damamge it's a real sleeper !!!!

A great little car, but be prepared for feeling quite 'unsafe' on the roads with stonking big SUVs. You're not as it's sturdily built and the plan had been to use it to replace the 94s.

62K for the Ford V4 engine is nothing - as long as it's been regularly and well serviced and taken car of.

Not the fastest car in the block, but what do you expect for 70s :)

I'd consider it a bit pricey, but if the shell has no cracks and the chassis has no rust then you'd be mad to pass it over.

Do a google on sonett III and you'll find plenty of club and personal web pages on it.

Beaaaaaaaaaaautiful car. Absolutely lovely. I'd kill for one of em to be in New Zealand. You lucky bastard! Please please buy it.

Seriously, it seems like a very good opportunity! In a few years they might be worth some serious money as classics!

Another question-what's the gas mileage for a Sonnet III of this description?

Big bumpers - ruined it :(

But I guess that's what they had to do for the US of A versions.

Still beautful behind the "make-up" though.

26mpg ( Brooklands books figures - SO Imperial gallons :) )

If he doesnt like the bumper (i hate it) then he can just take it off. Nice car, dont like the wheels tho ;).

Great 70's styling. Love it. It's on my short list of "character" cars.

Full of 70s 'character'. The bumpers look added on and out of place, though. Wheels original? Great shape, wouldn't change them.

The bumper is standard for the last year models.
It was Saab's first 'deformable' bumpers eveloepd for safety and to meet US legal requirements. It's claim to fame was the ability to absorb bumps up to 5-10mph and return to shape. I't sinfamy was they were big and ugly. But became the single identifiebale characteristic of the Saab 99 to come :(

I myself am OK with the bumpers, if I get it I probably won't do anything to them.

that looks pretty sweet. and if you ditch the bumpers you wont pass inspection more than likely if you have that up your way...
