Easily the EVO.

Quicker, more rare, and isn't a hideous tub of lard. (That last one was an opinion ;))

That's a toughie...prolly the M5 so I can sell it and get what I really want hehe

for me, the one thing that makes this a hard choice is the 7-speed SMG in the M5

Wow...and I make do with 3 gears.

I don’t think they can be compared… a lancer VS 5 series. The M5 is the Ultimate saloon. Yes the evo is fast but that’s all it has.

I agree the new M5 is the ultimate Ubersaloon, beating arguably even the RS6. The EVO FQ400 is a heavily modified Lancer, but a Lancer nonetheless. And people still vote that?

Yeah you got 7 gears... but with the limiter
you only get most of the 6th gear and NONE of the top gear!
That's realy sad...

Someone who owns a BMW can not be apologised for what you wrote:

1st thing: why do you consider an Evo a monster saloon? Think it as nothing to do with proportions, right?

2nd: those cars are on totally opposite sides of the automotive world and cannot be compared.

3rd : A BMW is always better than anything else.

4th: just for the record, compare the tag prices to see how much apart they are.

I think there should be an age restriction on UCP...some of the kids round here talk a lot of nonsense...
firstly...
1)monster in terms of performance
2)in terms of feature yes but both are performance cars bought solely for their performance
3)you must be kidding right?
4)most cars are really overpriced..so therefore the Evo should be better value in terms of bang for your bucks....
I drive a BMW..and I love it a lot...but if i can just afford to get me the Audi that I want .....

The Evo needs engine rebuilds every 4000 miles or something.

The M5 can be derestricted for a nominal fee.

The Evo might be quicker, but I should imagine that it would be a nightmare to live with.

the other thing with the evo for me is that all the performance stats i have seen so far are crap...

as stated on ucp 0-62 in 3.5 seconds, please absolute rubbish. that is zonda performance (yes i know it is possible in an evo but i will believe it when i hear of some independent official tests...)

now aside from that i would have to say i think the evo would be a much more entertaining drive simply as it is lighter and has an insanely advanced FWD system. however i could not go past the refinement of the BMW and joy to hear of the BMW with its high revving V10...

Age restriction? I'm most surely older than you so behave, ok?. And you're the one who don't really get the car things right otherwise you wouldn't be comparing such different cars.

M5 is a comfort car for people who like to cruise in style and the Evo is for the hard going street racer who like to go fast in the car. but personally i would go for the BMW M5 :)

I believe Car magazine tested a Evo FQ400 against the Zonda, with the Evo being marginally quicker in a straight line.

This one is a special EVO, it's faster than a Pagani Zonda doing 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

I would take the EVO, I'm not a fan of big luxurious cars. But I tell you what, I'd take the M3 over the EVO if it comes with an M5 engine :D

This is extremely tough, considering these are 2 of my top 10 favorite cars... I'll go with the M5. The Evo has reliability problems and according to Motor Trend, I believe, said is a pain in the arse to drive. I guess I'll take the Bimmer, for comfort/style/speed.

Evo vs Zonda

car_fiend
11-05-2004, 01:02 PM
i'd take the evo, its got limited production, so it'd be very rare in short time, and i hate the bmw design on the most of the 5 or higher series cars.

BMW325
11-05-2004, 01:14 PM
for those who are saying that this is a stupid comparison...
the FQ400 is the fastest rally-style sedan
the M5 is the most hardcore super-sedan
so its just the best vs the best...simple as that
of course these are very different cars...thats the point

1, thats a recomendation as to not void warentee since people who buy these cars WILL drive the wheels off them

2, ... are you kidding?

3, and seven gears isnt, i get pissed enuff with a 5 speed

For racing the Evo and for everything else the M5. Consider the cars like this: One you could build-up from a humble Lancer the other has a N/A V10 that makes 100 more hp. M5's no slouch other than initial acceleration the M5 will be faster.

It's on the track where the Evo really shines and now with 400 hp and AWD it's game over. Lighter weight and 4-wheel grip make it the easy choice.

Ownership wise, gimme da EMMM!

Interesting comparo

If I was in the market for an M5 and wanted to do a comparison with a car with AWD, I'd consider the RS6. Both the M5 and the RS6 have more than enough perfomance for the street...and even the track. Like Niko I'm not a fan of big luxury cars. If that's all they offer I might add. Due to Mitsubishi's awfull customer service record I'd pass on it.

I don't know if BMW are man enough to derestrict it themselves like Mercedes do for AMG models, but there are plenty of E39 M5s out there cruising along at well over 155mph.

I don't think that 7 gears are neccessary either, but for the times when you aren't thrashing the nuts off it it'll be in Auto mode, and when you are thrashing it you probably won't be going fast enough for 7th to be an option.

7 speed SMG would be easier to get used to than if it was a regular manualshift 7spd. With the sequential it's just up and down, with a V10 7 ratios seem redundant.

yeah, really. i have a V-8 and 3 speeds is all she seems to need. let alone an injected V-10.
